Only if a rib is broken severely enough to puncture your heart or a lung. In the case of a lung it would be slim that you would die because you would be immediately aware your lung was punctured as you would have difficulty breathing and if your smart you would get yourself to a hospital pronto where it would be fixed by using chest tubes to drain fluid off the lung.
Chances of dying from just regular broken ribs are very slim indeed! They normally heal on their own.

There are a number of potential problems that can develop from broken ribs, including internal bleeding (caused by the fractured bones severing blood vessels), a punctured lung (caused by a fractured rib pushing through the lung's membrane), other internal organs being damaged, and pneumonia. If you suspect you may have broken ribs, it is highly advisable that you seek medical attention at an emergency room immediately.

I've known plenty of people who have broken ribs and lived. Although it is very painful.
If your ribs break so bad or splinter so that they puncture your lungs or your heart, without medical treatment I suppose you could die, but this would take an immense amount of force (or a gunshot maybe) and I think you would be rushed to the emergency room right away.

Yes but I don't think it happens that often. Depending on how the rib or ribs are broken, they can puncture a lung or other organs. This could cause a collapsed lung or internal bleeding which could technically kill you if you don't have medical treatment within a certain amount of time.

The break itself wouldn't be fatal, but if you broke a major rib and punctured a lung, or some other vital organ, that could be fatal. You'd have to take a hell of a hit, though.

Indeed, if one of the broken ribs punctures your lung, and you do not get medical attention. This is called a pneunothorax.

If they are just cracked, probably not. If your injuries are so severe that the ribs are pushed spearlike into some organs, maybe.
