It is the Soldier not the Reporter who has given us the freedom of press.
It is the Soldier not the Poet who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier not the Organizer/Protester who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the Soldier not the Lawyer who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier who Salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag.
Why do the general public stand for the National flag being burned by demonstrators on our Capitals' street?
If the National flag is burned you are condoning the disrespect to that soldier who laid down his /her life so you could enjoy a more peaceful world.

Re bfpoonline's patriotic response - surely it's a red UPRIGHT cross on white back-ground for the St Patricks' flag of Ulster - which, as we know, is still an "integral part of UK" !!

Again to clarify bfpoonline's perception of Ireland being part of UK - it's not !!
NORTHERN Ireland aka the Province of Ulster IS however !
Southern Irealand aka Eire, or the 3 Provinces of Connaught, Lienster and Munster, or even the 26 counties of you are so inclined, is a Republic Country and, although part of European Union, is NOTHING to do with being part of, or an "integral part of" United Kingdom !
Thought I would add this info for the benefit of people who are unaware of the difference.

It's a sad reflection that out of 15 responses only 1 stands up -if only by political default - for the National flag of UK.. and he's Celtic and Welsh - not english which is what most people outside of UK believe the United Kingdom consists of and the UK flag represents !
New Labour has decimated the UNITED Kingdom into this perception.
TAKE NOTE Mr Tonhy Blair !
Full devolution for Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and england each allowed to get right behind thier OWN National Flag and Country.. because UNITED we are no longer - this question should be showing you this simple fact.
Gordon Brown, learn from others' past mistakes - Please...?

The national flag does not represent the soldier - it represents the country he serves. Demonstrators are not doing anything to the flag that the crap sitting in Congress and the Oval Office have not done to the Constitution.
Soldiers don't have a choice, and we all owe them not only all the respect, care and concern we can each muster, but also our sympathy because WE have elected MORONS who have put them in harm's way for no good reason other than a personal agenda.
If we don't question the government, and adamantly assert our RIGHTS as citizens, we are the ones to blame and should be wholly ashamed of ourselves. Demonstrators have the same rights as you or I. Eliminate those rights for one and you can kiss them good-bye yourself.
So far as the general public - they are too worried about who's getting tossed off the island or singing on American Idol to worry about either our soldiers OR the Constitution.

Because these scum are the ones the politicians truly represent. They force us to give these &*@f's free housing and pocket money through the benefit system and then they allow them to top it up with more money that they can send abroad to all the enemies our soldiers fight against. All 3 main parties support this and call it multi-cultural diversity. It is pretty evident now that if in the future you or I burn the Quran then we will be charged with treason and locked away for life or be beheaded. When that does happen, which our own politicians seem to want, and there are no more of us to pay taxes; then what will the politicians do as there won't be any more expenses to fiddle. Leave the country and ask their masters in the EU politburo to keep them in the lifestyle they have become accustomed to? Probably. Scr$£% all our so-called political representatives. It is obvious they have no intention of representing us or standing up for anything moral or decent in this country unless they think it will make them a bit wealthier.

If you was in Wales and tried it am sure you know what a bottom of a pit was like... Thankfully Wales is not represented on the British Flag, Wales is an integral part of the British Kingdom, yet it is not represented on the national flag, the Union Jack. The standard of Wales consists of a red dragon on a green and white background. As such, it will not fit easily into the design of the Union flag, composed of the red upright cross of St. George on a white background; the white diagonal cross of St. Andrew on a blue background; and the red diagonal cross of St. Patrick on a white background. This represents England, Scotland and Ireland respectively.
However As aWelsh Soldier under the Union Jack, I don't worry to much when i see it Burned on your National Streets round White Hall.... Next time maybe the demonstrators could put the P.M of today on top of the Burned Flag.... cos he's a Man who as sold out that flag and what it stands for..... That's even if the General public care..... As for the USA it has always held disrespect the Union Jack..... The USA even believe Wales is on the Union Jack....... please read on lol...
The red dragon of Wales (Y Ddraig goch) goes back a long time, long before the Union Jack was ever put together. As a national symbol for Wales, it predates its adaptation by the Tudors. The dragon is perhaps the very first mythical beast in British heraldry. Legend has Macsen Wledig and his Romano-British soldiers carrying the red dragon (Draco) to Rome on their banners in the fourth century. It was adopted in the early fifth century by the Welsh kings of Aberffraw to symbolize their authority after the Roman withdrawal. By the seventh century, it was known as the Red Dragon of Cadwallader, forever after to be associated with the people of Wales. The ninth century historian Nennius mentions the red dragon in his Historia Brittonum and it was referred to by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his Historia Regum Britanniae written between 1120 and 1129

When was the last time you saw a US flag being burned in the US? It's a bunch of Republican BS
BTW - Soldiers did not give us Freedom of the press.
Soldiers did not give us freedom of speech.
Soldiers did not give us freedom to demonstrate.
Soldiers did not give us the right to a fair trial.
All those rights were bestowed upon the American people by a bunch of crazy liberal intellectuals called the founding fathers.
There isn't anyone who served in the military since 1945 who defended our freedoms. Get a clue.
Isn't it interesting that whenever some right-wing self-described patriot makes these grand patriotic statements, it turns out they have no idea what they're talking about?

Personally, I've never burned a flag, seen one burned or been involved. However, do you think it would be possible for you to become as enraged at some REAL issues facing this nation?
Oh.....let's see.......how about:
The highest teen pregnancy rate on the planet, but contraception and related information denied to the same people.
Health insurance still unavailable for many, while available to basically all in Canada. I'm not going to argue the quality; its the availability.
The lack of real "Homeland Security." They rush to browbeat an American schoolgirl, but are content with not inspecting more shipping containers.
The increasing reality of global warming, and the politicians instead find time to argue about whether horse meat should be sold to humans.
The list goes on and on.
There are more important, more significant issues than the flag, I'm sorry.

It is the only form of political protest that actually gets the attention of people. A lot of republicans are more concerned with the symbol of America ( flag) than they are with the constitution or the direction in which the country is being led.
The Constitution is America
The Flag is just a symbol

Our soldiers also gave us the right to express ourselves in any way that we choose to. While it is extremely disrespectful to burn a flag, outlawing it would violate our freedom, and that would be an insult to our soldiers and our country.

You seem to be trying to make some kind of vague connection between a flag and the military. I take it that you think the military is the foundation of all human advancement.
And you'd be wrong.
The flag is a symbol, and that's all it is. When you make symbols more important than substance, you abdicate the responsibility to think, learn and grow. The symbol is not our master, whether that symbol be the stars and stripes, or the swastika.

I don't stand for it. If someone says they're burning it and it's protected under the First Amendment, then I guess that person doesn't mind if I exercise my SECOND Amendment right and put a stop to his flag burning. Just a thought.
