Ignorance. A lot of times there are double standards. I won't get into them. But, I don't believe one should force their beliefs on others. I eat meat and I wear leather. I will always eat meat and wear leather. If you choose not to do either I respect that, I won't try to change your mind, but do try to change mine. I will listen to your point of view as long as you will listen to mine. I don't have to agree with yours as you don't have to agree with mine. Happy New Year.

Because fur is perceived by many as a rich persons decoration whereas leather is more for everyone!
Leather is a byproduct of meat production and therefore more of the animnal is used when it has been killed.
Fur is usually the sole product of most fur species e.g. mink etc. Also, endangered species provide some very nice furs - and killing such animals, particularly for decoration, is morally not justifiable. Some exotic 'leathers' e.g. some species of alligator/crocodile can also fall into this problem area.

That's a really good question. I think the outcry against fur started because of the inhumane way animals were killed for fur - I believe they are electrocuted by a probe inserted in their anus, so that the fur doesn't get ruined.
I think people also hate that the animals are killed ONLY for their fur, whereas we use the rest of the cow for food.
Most importantly though, fur animals - minks, rabbits, etc. - are cute and fuzzy. Cows aren't. And how ridiculous is that.

Fur is more connected with the endangered animals it comes from, so people feel more towards that issue it seems. Where as Leather is from Bull and Cow hide mainly and the hide goes farther and lasts longer. It is a bit screwed up how people prioritize the killing of animals but leather sure is pretty and keeps you warm!

I think the main reason is that leather comes from animals that are used as a food source as well. People need to eat (granted, they don't necessarily have to eat meat, but that's a different argument) but no one NEEDS a fur coat. We have man-made fibers now that are just as warm. Fur coats are simply about vanity, fashion or style - not need. That said, I think throwing paint on someone is a bit fanatical and if someone threw paint on me, God help them!

Well if there was no leather that would eliminate long wearing shoes, belts and most jackets for warmth.
It's an emotional issue and never made any sense to me.
I mean people still wear fur coats in the yukon, alaska and other countries to keep warm, they dont' have Lands End catalogs I suppose.

Because the fur industry is known for inhumane practices, and it's all for the end product- the fur. Simply put, leather is a bi-product of the meat industry....and although there's plenty of inhumane practices being done there too, it's in the name of meat, and the leather is just left over. I would never wear fur.

Leather is the result of skining the animal that we usually use for meat or other feeding processes. The fur industry exist just for the coat. The animal is often of no use to humans. Thus, the flesh is burn or otherwise disposed of. In other words the animals are born and raised only because they are pretty.

i 'm pretty sure its cuz leather is made from cows and they use almost everything from cow and fur is from more exotic animals, and they only use they fur from it and nothing else. I think its stupid that they even throw the paint on the fur, now the animal that died for the fur was now killed for no reason at all, i guess they don't think about that part.

Because cows are neither smart nor pretty. They don't do much either. So people accept the fact that cows are killed. Plus we all love steak and hamburgers too much. And leather is an essential part of our closets. Poor little animals like minks and chinchillas are being killed just so that snobby rich people can wear them as a coat. Now that's just not right.
