Not too sure about the US but in the UK, at least this morning when i watched the hanging on the BBC, they did not show his death, only the moments leading up to it. FYI, if it hadnt been shown, you would have even more people convinced that he may not really be dead.

Put it this way, i dont really care what Saddam Hussein thought, but I did not feel that showing it on TV was appropriate - i was more than happy not to see it. However it should be available like on the internet - so those that want to see his last moments can without being forced to because it is on the TV.

First of all, you are dealing with an Islamic culture and they have 3 ways of execution. A firing squad is an honorable death and not an option for Saddam. The other 2 are for criminals. Hanging and stoning. Saddam got the easier of the two.

As for it being public, it was not. It was done in a small private location.

As for being taped and broadcast, that is also part of their culture. Their people would not have believed it happened unless they saw the hanging or the tape of the hanging.

Just keep in mind, different cultures have different laws and customs. What you might find revolting here, may be common place there.

I have just answered a similar question. The people who executed him, the people who watched and filmed it, and the people who are now clamouring to watch the footage, are just as sick as Saddam was. Watching such grizzly acts brutalises the human spirit. It should not have been filmed at all, because it turns everyone into voyeurs. Nobody cared about what Saddam had done; they simply wanted to watch somebody having their neck broken for the pleasure it gave them. I am also concerned by the number of females, presumably feminists, who not only agree with the execution, but use the opportunity to argue that rape and paedophilia should also become Capitol offences. I don't think so, particularly considering that all sorts of minor sexual offences have been included within the definition of rape. And what about those who are falsely accused, and have to prove that they are innocent? So, if they brought back capitol punishment it wouldn't be long before those nasty minded feminists brought other crimes into this category.

It is all a bit inhumane, but the electric chair is usually much slower and more painful than hanging.

It's on the internet because too many sick people seem to want to get their rocks off watching a man die.

It should not have been made public - not out of any respect for Saddam, just because watching a man die isn't family entertainment.

So thumbs-downers: you believe that watching a man die IS family entertainment? I pity you.

Whenever we or our allies in the war against radical Islam, use video taped executions to make a public statement we are no better than the enemy we are working to destroy.

Saddam and Al Jazeera are the ones who parade dead people around not western civilizations.

He most certainly deserved to die, showing his body after wards would have been the thing to do. Plus it would have been more American, it would have had an old west apperance.

It's not my cup of tea but I understand the gratification that many people might get from it. He was a horrible person who has put the World through a hard time. Being an opposer of censorship I'm glad the video was made public for whoever wants to view it. It's your choice.

for years we have been saying that these middle east folk are
backward and barbaric having public floggings and executions, and now look at us, are we not the same rushing to see it on the internet. how long before the likes of blair start stuff like this in britain.technowledgy like the internet is becoming pretty auful, lets see that most of us are in a comfortable position and not able
to judge properly its right to punish wrong, but the wrong are punishing the wrong because sadam is not wrong in the accepted way, he was wrong in his own way, he should have been judged by the pure and just, that would have been just and the virdict whatever would have been acceptable.western style courts with lawyers by the dozen are no good anymore the finest upstanding religous council should have judged him.

He died in an inhumane way because he deserved because he was inhumane. I believe it should of been done years ago,do you know what he did to people? And even people in his own country, I think he probably deserved much worse, What a horrible monster he was.
