im looking for things that are gonna boost transmitting range, stuff that may not be on the legal side..

Wow does that take me back to the old CB days.
Ok you didn't say weather it was a base station or a Mobile but here are some thing you can do.
Get a power mike, a better attana and ma by a linnier. The power mike and the attana are legal but the linner is not. But it will boost the range.

Modifications to a CB radio are in violation of FCC regulations. It is illegal.

stock radios wont make it far, once you have bought your amp, antenna and whatever else DONT FORGET TO CALIBRATE YOUR ANTENNA, most people dont even know about calibrating and wonder why theyre 500 watt linear isn't pushing the distance, Ive seen truckers calibrate there antennas and get triple the distance, I'm not sure what gadget my buddy used but i remember he bought it at radio shack and adjusted the signal till it maxed out the needle very simple

check around truck-stops and find a cb shop.Have it "peaked and tuned" you may also want a modulation kit installed... I just had all that done to my cobra 29 classic for $40........ good luck
