If such a species invaded the earth after traveling distance measured in light years, their military technology would be probably too advanced to resist no matter how well humans would cooperate. But the precedent for unlikely alliances in the face of a common enemy existed in WWII in that of the Russian and USA alliance, which crumbled soon thereafter.

Well, let's see. Democrats think the enemy are the terrorists who were responsible for 9/11. Republicans think the enemy is everyone who lives in the mid-east even though 99.99% of them have absolutely nothing to do with terrorism.
So, the way I figure it, if aliens tried to invade the Earth, Democrats would unite with Jews, Muslims, etc... to thwart the aliens.
Republicans would go to war with the entire universe.
Hmmm... or possibly go to war with Mexico just because the word "alien" might well confuse them.

Yes your right. The USA would first check them on whether they have a democracy on their planet .And then act accordingly
Muslims would check them on whether they belive in Allah
And Jews would try to find out if the ailiens have a place for Jews on their planet to build a new country called Israel
Al others would watch

I think most people---Christians, Jews, Muslims (Shi'a and Sunni), Europeans, Americans, Arabs---would unite to fight the aliens. But you have to wonder if al-Queda and Hamas would sieze the opportunity to attack Israel or the US.

The Jews would try to bribe them, the Muslims would try and stone them to death, and the Americans wouldn't be interested unless they had oil. C'mon what planet you from anyway? :)
