I'm not talking about Saddam's execution, which I'm sure that you would agree that he deserved to be hanged. In my opinion, no one has a right to take away another person's life, whatever he has done. I do agree that a criminal, dictator need to be punished, but not by taking their lifes. What do you think?

No I do not agree with the death penalty.

1. It has never been shown to be a deterant, per capita (which is the only way to accurately gage) studies show countries with the death penalty have just as many or more murders then countries that don't. The US is the only first world country that has the death penalty as punishment, we also have the highest murder rate per 1000 people of any first world country

2. There is no recourse for those wrongly convicted after a death sentance has been carried out. Since the 1976 reinstatement of the Death Penalty in the US 23 cases that have been sentanced to death and executed only later to be shown unmistakenly that they were wrongful convictions and the person was not guilty of the charges. Another 21 were proven not guilty prior to their executions and released. Several more remain in dispute.

"...the death penalty diminishes all of us, increases disrespect for human life, and offers the tragic illusion that we can teach that killing is wrong by killing." ~McCarrick

LALA an eye for an eye was also directly addressed and refuted in the bible. It is actually Hamorabi's Law of Babylon..........which was for purposes of revenge.

I support the death penalty. People come together as a group to write laws. The social norms that all must follow. The people as a greater being then the individual deem certain crimes as most foul and therefore deserve the worst punishment. People who kill, rape, hurt to a great deal with malice aforethought, invade homes, kidnap, and a few others have broken society's most cherished rules and have lost the right to live. They should be put to death.
I do not think it needs to be needlessly harmfull or painfull. But it should be done in a quick way. I see no problem with the bullet or the noose.

I used to be until I found out that because of appeals it actually costs more to execute someone than to keep them in jail and there have been many cases where new evidence specifically DNA showed that a person ready to be executed was actually innocent. Maybe I would be ok with it if we knew that the person was 100% guilty, like Saddam

Well i see it like this. Death is too easy. You're right in my opinion. The executioner is as guilty at the person being executed. Killing, is killing. I think there should be prisons built for people who would have been executed. Never see the light of day again. only eat enough to sustain. But make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt they are truly guilty. Easy to judge one. But what if the shoe were on the other foot?

I do not like the Death Penalty, and do not agree with it. It is cruel and primitive.Especially by hanging. In these extreme cases it seems to be necessary. That judgment was left up to the Courts of the Country where the crime against humanity was committed.

I don't feel comfotable about taking another life either. Being a christian it made it even harder to think of killing another being. Saddan's and other criminals that take another life should be punish. Maybe they should die the way their victims were as an equal punishment. If it was my family that was killed I"ll probably would think different. Good question. Got me thinking :0)

No, I don't agree with it. Everyone makes mistakes. I mean, sure, they deserve to have a punishment, but to take away their lives is beyond cruel. An eye for an eye makes the world go blind.

Yes, I am for the death penalty in some cases. I think that there are people who simply cannot be rehabilitated and that have committed such heinous crimes that they should pay for it with their lives. Especially those people who commit crimes like rape, incest and murder against anyone but especially against the elderly and the young and the mentally retarded.

let the punishment fit the crime. If somebody takes another's life, then they should die. Now I mean only if they take it willingly and knowingly, not like in an accident where they did not do it intentionally.
