Use both together and you will be acne free. You can also add Alpha-Hydrox as well and you will be soooooo beautiful. Happy New Year. BTW Benzoyl peroxide is an anti-bacterial and salicylic acid is an exfoliant as is alpha hydrox. Salicylic works on the upper layer alpha hydrox works on the lower layer both increase the process of cell turnover.

I have used benzoyl peroxide for years and years and it always works. I have also researched about it and found that one of its properties is that it doesn't cause immunity to it from using it. As far as the Proactiv formula as a whole, it works for some people and not others. Some people have found it works for a while, then after a time it is no longer effective. For me, Proactiv never was effective--the cleanser was too strong. I just use a gentle cleanser and use a lotion with benzoyl peroxide. You might try doing the same, and if it doesn't work, then try other options. One thing I do know is that there are different contributing factors for acne in different people.

use the salicylic acid in a face wash. instead of putting lotion on at night, use a benzoyl peroxide treatment, no less than 10%. be generous. . .make your face dry out. use an exfoliating wash in the morning to get rid of the flakes, and you should see big results w/in a week or 2.

I have read in different beauty magazines that it depends on the age of your skin. However for the last 10 plus years I have used a skin care line by Murad that includes an acne line. Dr. Murad "firmly" believes that benzoyl peroxide is bad for your skin and that acne needs "treatment" to keep the skin from scarring and causing dark spots and I agree. So take a look at his website and decide for yourself. I do like his acne spot treatment and I know that he uses salicylic acid in his other acne treatment. The beauty of his product line is that you can mix and match items because all of my skin isn't acne prone so I don't need the acne line just the spot treatment. The spot treatment contains sulfur and zinc oxide to treat acne and it does work to dry acne along with some other items that will condition the skin and keep it from scarring--read Dr. Murad's opinion on Benzoyl peroxide on the first link on the left side. Good luck to you!!

I truthfully use both. They both found in my face washes(Salicylic Wash and Anti-Bacterial Wash by Ayur-Medic). Although, Salicylic really drys out your skin and it usually for really dry skin and not all the time use. It is good for inflamed skin and clearing out pores. Although, Benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria in the pores. So it mostly based off what you need. Although, it is always good to switch off between the two.
