If you are scheduled to work until a certain time, can you be forced to leave earlier than scheduled or is it your decision if you can leave earlier. If you could give me a link to a website that says this that would be great.

For the most part yes, however there are restrictions in certain states. For example in New Hampshire, if an employee is scheduled to work, shows up and then is sent home right away by the employer, the employer has to pay the employee for a mnimum of two hours even if the employee did not work two hours. The law in Massachusetts is 3 hours. If your employer has you scheduled for 8 hours and sends you home after 6 hours, there is nothing that you can do about that. Your employer may be trying to cut down on expenses by saving payroll dollars.

The employer has the right to "direct and control" employees. If there is no work, the employer may elect to send workers home, without pay for hours not worked (unless there is a labor agreement in place, in which case the agreement may restrict such management right).

If you elect to leave without managerial authorization, you could be charged with "job abandonment" and terminated.

Yes. Good employers will give you a choice in the matter--offering for people to go home early if there is not enough work.

I would suggest looking up the labor laws in your state. (Google your state and the term "labor laws" and see what you get.)

Good luck!

You need to look up the Department of Labor and Industry for your state. They can give you information on labor laws.
