My wife and I are having a debate to go along with our upcoming child. I love the name Emmanuelle. I love that it means "God is with us". My wife thinks the name is too sexy for a little girl. Is it?

There are seven porn stars named 'Emmanuelle' and almost as many named 'Emanuelle' on iafd.com, which is an excellent site for that sort of debate. (Hint to all: just say no to 'Tiffany.')

I think the association with

"Plot Summary for
Emmanuelle (1974)
Emmanuelle is a beautiful young model and lives in Bankok together with her husband Jean, who's several years older. She likes him because he's taught her much, and he likes her because she's learning so well - and wants to often. Both are very tolerant in matters of extramarital affairs, so he doesn't mind the young Marie-Ange coming over erver so often, although she obviously wants more than talk from his wife. But Emmanuelle is more fascinated by the older Bee, and joins her on a trip into the jungle."

...is still there. Sorry. I am weirded out by the 'that's a boy's name' answers -- that, I wouldn't have expected. Quite odd.

The main thing that my husband and I did with naming our child is we didn't choose one name until BOTH of us were comfortable with it. I had some names that I just ADORED but my husband didn't like at all because of his own reasons. So we chose the one we agreed on, even though it wasn't my first choice. I am so glad we did because her name is a testimony to us being one in marriage.

Keep this in mind too. Though Emmanuelle means "God is with us", if the name is causing you two to argue or disagree over it, it doesn't represent God, because He is a God of Peace and order. So chill, and see what name you both have peace about. God created your beautiful child, He has a specific name. If Emmanuelle IS the name God has chosen, pray that your wife will get peace over it, and then there ya go!

CONGRATS ON THE BABY!!!

Your wife is probably being reminded of a movie that came out in the '70's called Emmanuelle and was considered an adult classic. On the other hand, as Topol would have said (Fiddler On The Roof :o) my daughter picked a name for my grandaughter when my daughter was in her teens. The name was used in a movie in which the little girl died, and I remember feeling odd about it when she said that was what she was going to name her little girl, if she were blessed to have a little girl. Well she did, and she did....and it turned out the name also is the name of an African Princess Warrior. And so it is with my grandaughter. She's marvelous and a princess every inch of her. So...my thinking....go with it.... because "God is with us" is a far more wonderful ASPECT of the name than any other thing that might be attached to it. If you think about it,,,most any name might have its pro's and con's. The important thing is that you walk together - and agree.

Kind of sounds a little to boyish to me too. I like meanings of names too, but make sure that the meaning and the name are something your baby is going to be able to live with for the rest of her life. Maybe hold on to Emmanuelle if you ever have a baby boy.

I think it is just too long! Imagine poor Emmanuelle in kindergarten learning her name!! Maybe name her Emma. Her middle name could be Noel and it would sound the same. Or Emma Elizabeth. It is your choice but at least give her a short middle name to fall back on.

That is a beautiful name for a little girl. But you might want to us that as her middle name.

Amanda Emmanuelle
Lindsey Emmanuelle
Leeah Emmauelle
Haleigh Emmanuelle

Ehhh, a little bit to be honest. My guy friends name was Emmanuelle. There are LOTS of God-giving names, i would research more. I know the name Ariana has to do with God's blessing...and i'm sure there are many more.

It's not too sexy you could call her emma or elle or manny and it be cute. And it is a little sexy I suppose because I could not imagine an unsexy lady having that name, but sexy and slutty are not the same thing. Remind her of that. But ultimatly if she feels uncomfortable, move on, it's coming from her belly and she has the final say, like it or not.

i think it sounds like a boy's name and complicated....please bear in mind when naming your chlidren...it's not about how trendy YOU want to be, but what the poor child has to live with for the rest of it's life. oh and i don't think there is anything sexy about the name at all. your wife if off base on that one. how about Isabella? Now that's a pretty name and they kids won't make fun of her.
