Normally, I would just burn the image on a dvd and bang! Bob's your uncle....BUT

I need a Blu Ray DVD Burner for these extra large files which at $1000 isn't going to happen. So...

Is there a way, by installing Yellow Dog Linux, that I can install the files??

Maybe some sort of Linux emulator that would install the files on the correct partition of the PS3??

It isn't quite possible yet. They've just hit upon the ability to pull the disk images out of the PS3 disks, but as far as I can tell, they have yet to come up with a way to make them playable, even if you did have a Blu-Ray burner. Note that even with PS2 games, it isn't just "burn it and Bob's your uncle," you need some sort of hardware or software mod to be able to play the burned DVD on your machine. It only makes sense that it's at least as challenging with Blu-Ray based PS3 games.

Basically you can regard these game torrents as a "proof of concept" to show that ripping a PS3 game can be done, and an important step on the way to having "playable backups." Once they do figure out how to make them work, then you can use your downloaded file.

The nice advantage that the PS3 has over any Blu-Ray player (apart from the games), is that Sony makes firmware upgrades to enhance your Blu-Ray experience. Just two weeks ago, Sony added the Picture in Picture functionality and the Blu-Ray profile 1.0 and profile 2.0 - this is functionality which no other Blu-Ray player on today's market has - and current Blu-Ray players will never have as they do not have the option to upgrade firmware like the PS3 has. To sum up, if BluRay capabilities change Like they have done this past month), Sony can modify the PS3 to match that. You cannot do that with a Blu-Ray player

I don't know about the PS3, but the PS2 i do know you can't play burnt games on it, without modifying the machine with a mod chip you buy off the net. All PS2 games come with deliberatly placed bad sectors on the cd or dvd media, and the console first checks the media for those sectors before it would launch the game. The mod chip you buy is soldered onto the PS2's circuit board and lets the machine skip that check. I can't imagine the PS3 would be any different and have the same copy protection in place.
