It seems that the Patriot Act in its endeavor to protect us from terrorism has given the Government power not granted by the Constitution, and in some cases appears to have placed a limit on freedoms granted by the Bill Of Rights.

It really all depends on how you interpret the constitution. Both political parties interpret it differently to suit their needs at the time. I personally don't care, I would choose for my children to be safe before I would worry about who's listening to me talk on the phone etc. As long as you are not a terrorists it will not be hurtful to you. The Feds really could careless about petty stuff the everyday person does.

I tried to read the Patriot Act. it was incredibly long, very long.

A lot of the act details what the payments are to victims of 9/11, it also provides for first responders.

I never got past that. I do know that the Patriot Act allows the FBI and CIA to share information with each other.

As far as I know of only the Federal Emergency Powers Act allows the Constitution to be suspended.

The constitution has been suspended and ignored since the beginning in times of duress. A couple of notable times were: Abraham Lincolns suspension of habeus corpus, probably justifiable. And Franklin Roosevelt's interment of Japanese Americans, proven unjustified. What the patriot act does is small potatoes compared to those.

By the way I am against the Patriot act. It is prime example of the hypocrisy of politicians. It is more than what Bill Clinton wanted after Oklahoma and the Republicans were against that and the Democrats were for it. Now its reversed with all the exact same arguments as before except they just changed sides.

Hey, I don't know why you are concerned about this. Congress has overstepped their Constitutional authority decades ago. And that's not to mention what the courts have done to the Bill of Rights. So, what's one more for our safety?

I very strongly suspect that if there was any merit to your belief at all that the flaming liberals would have had it in court a dozen times by now. Since that hasn't happened I can only conclude that this is another bootless bit of trouble-making babble by the liberals in another effort to confuse the issues without any real point.

We have less freedoms, and still feel no safer. If we got rid of the Patriot Act I would feel much safer about the people who actually run the government.

No. The Constitution hasn't been suspended, only ignored. Just a few insignificant parts have been violated, like the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th Amendments. The rest is OK so far.
