I'm 14, and ever since I went on that carrer day feild trip, the only thing I have had on my mind for 7 months stright was "WTF Is my carrer going to be?!" I want to be an artist, but I lost my creative talent. So now I started thinking about living on the street. Either that or I kill myself. So, now my mom wants to take me to a psyciatrist to strighten things out. Do you think the psychiatry will help me become the great artist like I've dreamed of?

I do think a psychiatrist would be helpful.

Regarding future career, why worry about being the actual artist? Why not manage artists, or go out and find undiscovered talent and sell their artwork? You, of course, would reap the financial rewards in addition to enjoying the quality of life you will crave (seeing and discovering the best artwork on the planet, traveling the world over, parties, friends, etc etc).

That's what I would do . . . .good luck.

First of all, Taking your own life would be an awful waste, you are obviously intelligent, and if you didn't have any creative talent you wouldn't be so worried about it.

Go ahead and be an artist. But it is hard work - creative talent is more of a myth, than a quality. It comes and goes and no one is sure why. You must practice your art EVERY Day, whether or not you feel creatively inspired. You must develop a faith in your abilities, that belief in yourself does not occur naturally, you must develop it. That faith will help you overcome the doubts you are feeling, now. Everyone feels those doubts

Learn everything you can about your art; bug your teachers, haunt the art department, get your Mom to take you to museums and art shows (if you mean graphic arts like drawing and painting).

Second, by the time you are 18 you will need a means to feed and clothe yourself. Probably the easiest thing to do is prepare for a job as a graphic designer, there is lots of work in publishing and web design, and graphic designers make good money.

Most important!! RELAX. have fun being 14 for a year or so, then do your best with 15. And for heaven's sake stay on the planet long enough to find out . We need folks who are willing to be serious about life, but not too serious.

NO.. I really don't think thats going to help. A Psych is just going to offer you drugs anyways. Try to stay away from them. Finding you're creativity again is something you will have to do alone.
However, I can give you this one little tip.
Go back and see if there was anything you didn't understand out art. Even the name ART, whats that means. Just make sure you didn't stop becasue you mis-understood something. It happens all the time. Try it.

You need to slow down and focus on finishing your education.Looking ahead at a business that has not been explored with a guidance counselor is a dream. You need to research your goal of being an artist and take steps to achieve your goal.
