No, you don't HAVE to go to college. Many will give you bonus points on your entry test for college credits and may also give you bonus education pay. But the main criteria is a clean background and high morals.

More and more departments are requiring a college degree in criminal justice. At minimum, you will need to attend a police academy - many cities have their own as do the state agencies. A military background is also helpful.

it depends on what precint/police academy you choose. some police academies just require a certain number of college hours (basic courses) and then you can apply to the academy of your choice. Check out the police stations that have a link on their website about their academy, and most of them require about 60 college hours and that the applicant be at least 21 years old. good luck!

It depends on which department. For instance, here in Louisville, ky you have to have either 5yr at another dept. 4 yrs military or 60 college credit hours. any of the 3 and you can apply then after all testing, polygraph, physical, psych. exam etc you can go to the academy which you do get paid to go to and it lasts i believe 22 months.

it depends on the police force you want to join. I would suggest you research which police force you are interested in. If you are looking to be a state police officer pretty much all require you to have a BA and/or BS.

Good Luck!!!

it does help to have a criminal justice degree but it is not necessary. if you want to advance int eh ranks to detective or lieutenant it would be required. you can get a CJ degree in 2 or 4 years depending on the type of degree. if you want to really advance you will need the 4 year CJ degree. also you will need a clean criminal record and be in reasonably good health

Depends. Look at the requirements in the city/town/village that you're applying to. Overall, a college education will help you advance. I believe it's required here in Chicago.

Good luck, tough career to stay with but very fulfilling.
