Hi, I just recently purchased a Jungle Carpet Python. She is a yearling. She is very aggressive. Every research page said they were nippy but I've been bitten more than 15 times already. I've had her for about three days already. She is a very good eater. Feeding on pinkies. She is like this when I take her out of cage. She has a nice tank filled with branches,driftwood,2 hiding places-one on ground and one in the air. When I take her out to hold her she is evereywhere.Anything that moves she strikes at it . My famiy is very scared of her. She is being handled for about 3 hours a day. Ineed help?????

let her settle in, don't try handling her and keep interactions to a minimum for a week or so and then try to slowly ease into handling(don't just pick her up and start walking around, pick her up in her cage for a few seconds) when you do start handling her try wearing some good gloves so she won't scar up you arms and when she does bite don't start freaking out and trying to pull her off your arm, just remain calm and either let her decide to let go or put her back into her cage and she will eventually let go. when you hold her do you let her move around? ime, most snakes will calm down once you get them off the ground and let them go where they want. you let her crawl through your hands and just move the rear most hand forward to support her body so she won't fall, that way it's like she running in place and eventually she'll either get used to you or get tired and just curl up in one hand, as long as you don't make any sudden moves usually they won't try to bite(notice i said usually, i've had some really nasty snakes that never calmed down and never got tired of biting me, usually babies)

you only had her for three days? well give her a week before you handle her again. she needs to get used to her new home. Also when you feed her which should only be once a week or once every 4 days depending ... but when you feed her DO NOT feed her in the tank she spends most of her time in ... (in her home) buy a plastic tub and feed her in there. one major problem is people feed snakes in tank and end up getting bitten every time they stick a hand in there. B/c of course the snake is going to expect food every time. But give her some time to adjust it may take longer than a week but also don't handle her very long right before and right after she eats! Plus remember she is going to have to get used to you and your scent and learn that you aren't food.

make sure your hands don't smell like pinkies. Keep handling her. The more you do, the better she'll get, but they say the carpet python is not the ideal pet for this reason.

Snakes are stressed when they move to a new environment. You mentioned only having it for three days. I would suggest feeding your snake and then leaving it totally alone for a few days/about a week to allow it to get used to its new surroundings.

Good Luck

You should consider your family too. If they are scared you have to think twice. Why you go for a domestic animal as a pet insted?

she sounds aggressive to me...we have had some friendly and some not...yours seems to fit the not catergory....give her a little more time and if she doesn't stop... I would sell her and get a new one.
