I suppose it must have something to do with where you live. I don't see these things that you mention where I live. People in my neighborhood and surrounding areas, do help each other out, very much so.
Not so long ago I was in a very bad accident and was rendered temporarily unable to get around. I was overwhelmed at all the help that people offered and gave. My refrigerator was so full I could barely fit everything in it. People from my work and neighborhood all volunteered to cook and bring over food for me and tidy up the house.
My co-workers even rallied around and collected $1600.00 dollars for me, because with my job you did not get paid if you did not work. That helped a lot at the time. So I really cannot relate to what you say here. There are plenty of good and caring people left in the world, trust me!

I am lucky to live in a rural county....small towns here and everyone watches out for the others....we know our neighbors, when elderly need a helping hand many is offered. We have some crime yes but not in the extreme like the big cities do.
If I called 911 I could tell them just my name and they would know where I lived...not have to give directions etc.....
Each generation has had its good and bad days so thats a hard to deal with......but today, we have youth (such as ToughGuy in answer above) that would never be so disrepective to family much less in public for others to see. But the news shows only the bad, there are good out there, you just have to keep hoping they build better prisons to lock those kind up who have lost themselves in rudeness and into illegal things. only then can we have more good ole days

"What has happen to the good ole days?"
These are the good old days we live in NOW.
It depends on how you live them.
Do unto others as you would as they would do unto you.
Make sunshine in others lives and the sun will shine for you too.
Do you look after your neighbour?
A little smile , a little nod and then you say 'How do you do?'
It means a lot, worth all you've got,
To all your friends when they feel blue.
Just remember pride has a fall,
Kind words cost you nothing at all
Every day now try to be fair
And you will walk around the town just like a millionaire.
