I just went for an ultrasound a few days ago and things looked good with the fetus. It was moving around, heart rate was good. Now I am cramping a bit and spotting. Not sure what to do. I have been taking it easy, getting lots of rest. Should I go to the hospital? I have to work on Tuesday and it requires some lifting of boxes that are about 10lbs. I have no one to fill in for me. I should call by boos (who doesn't know I am pregnant yet). What a way to break the new year in.

yes this requires another exam and possible ultrasound. maybe nothing but things can change. your boss has absolutely no business knowing why you are seeing a physician or going to an er. they will give you a note saying you need time off. and if you are spotting and cramping going into your 2nd trimester, you should not be lifting boxes. so see your ob/gyn.

Im 9 weeks pregnant and when I was 6 weeks I spotted and cramped with low backache and everything for a week and a half. The spotting was a light red color. They did an ultrasound and heartbeat and everything looked good and was no threat to my baby, they never found out what made me bleed like that. They placed me on bed rest and after a week of that I stopped spotting and everything is going well now. I never told my boss either that I was pregnant and he still does not know. I just told him that I was on bed rest because I was experiencing some health complications and he didnt ask any questions.sometimes women spot during pregnancy and they dont ever know the reason, it just happens. it could be an infection also..i had that with my son, along with bad cramps. If u are spotting u need to go see a doc or go into the er to make sure u and your baby is doing ok. Do not go into work either. if u have your boss' number u should call him. lifting will just make things worse. everythime i cleaned the house or tried working a little i started to spot. U just need to lay down and take it easy. Go into the er today and take care of yourself. I hope u and your baby are ok. Good Luck!
P.s get a doc note...

Generally spotting is fine. Bleeding is not. repeteitive lifting is now out of the question for you. Even 10 pounds. You're wrapping up your first trimester, and from here on that action isnt good for your uterus or stomach muscles. Time to break the news to your boss.

The cramps are most likely unrelated, but they can signal a problem, esepcially if theyre more painful than your period cramps would be.

Call your OB's office or the ER and explain your situation. They will be able to help you.

Your OB has a 24 hours call plan. if you call and get the answering machine, listen for a different number to call. There should be a an answering service that picks up and pages the doctor or nurse or midwife for situations like this.

PRegnant women do no have complications from 9-5. They have them at night and holidays too. Call your OB.

I had spotting at 11 weeks with my first daughter and I immediately called my midwife. She sent me right to an ultrasound and found out that I had a small 1 cm tear in my placenta. I was placed on bedrest for 2 weeks and then they repeated the ultrasound to check. At that point it had resolved itself but it is better safe than sorry. As for your boss, please don't worry about your job. Worry about your child. You don't need to give him the reason at the moment and by the time you do you may have a note from the doctor. So just go and take it easy and call the doctor or hospital to see what they would like you to do. Good luck.

Go to the ER right now and have someone drive you- dont you drive- and NO, it is inadvisable for you to be lifting - that is why you need to make sure everythiing is ok- the ER will do another ultrasound and an OB doctor will see you- you may be on bedrest for a few days to make sure you stabilize -- you don't want to lose the baby--- and guess what-- there are laws that protect pregnant women against job discrimination regarding your pregnancy- if the ER doctor/OB gives you a slip stating you need bedrest for x amount of days and then a no lifting restriction your BOSS will have to abide by the rules- IT IS THE LAW. So don't worry about your job- go to the ER and good luck to you and your little one--- Happy New Year

Defintely NO lifting. This happened to my friend, and all was fine as long as she stayed off her feet for a while and did no heavy lifting.
Call your boss, wish him/her a happy new year and tell em that you didn't want to break the news this way b/c you were a bit nervous but this is what's going on, that you are going to go to the hospital for an ultrasound but that you don't know if you are going to be on Tuesday and wanted to give him/her a heads up.
Good Luck.

If you are spotting and cramping you should call your doctor right away. You are a high risk pregnancy due to your age. Call your boss. He or she would not expect you to come into work knowing the situation. Good luck!

Red blood is new blood and while it may not be anything serious, please don't waste time waiting for answers here because none of us can possibly know for sure what's going on....Get yourself to an ER right away to be examined.
