Genius, school buses don't have seat belts because they are not the most efficient way to protect passengers. School buses use what is called compartmentalization to protect passengers. This simply means that the seats are cushioned and arranged in such a way as to protect the passengers. Placing seat belts in buses, while possible, would only be effective if used properly. How on earth would a school bus driver pay attention to the road and make sure that at all times every single child was wearing their belt correctly? Therefore, the most efficient solution is compartmentalization. The most efficient solution for you in your own personal car is to wear your seat-belt.
Assuming that because X is true in situation Y that it must also be true in situation Z is a logical fallacy. Simply put just because something may be true in one situation doesn't make it true for all.
The reason we have seat belt laws is for people like you who don't know what your talking about, and don't know what's in your own best interest so we pass laws forcing you to do whats in your own best interest.

The simple fact is that there are a very few incidences when a seatbelt becomes a detrimental thing. Your father was in one of those few incidences.
Seatbelts have proven to have made a vast impact on the number of lives that are saved. The reason being that if you do not wear one you have a great chance of being propelled through the windshield of the car and thus pretty much killing you outright, or at the very least disfiguring your face severely for life.
This is not to say there are never any fatalities while wearing a seatbelt, but your chances of being killed are greatly reduced. Be smart wear a seatbelt! Airbags are not one hundred per cent effective, you can still be propelled through a side window or even the back window.

I don't think anyone should be legally forced to wear their seatbelts. Given the information we have about the safety of wearing seatbelts, most people should make the smart choice, but if they want to threaten their lives, that's fine too. Motorcyclist pay a different amount of insurance, simply because the statistics of injury and death resulting from an accident are much higher for them. Even if a motorcyclist were to wear a seatbelt, it really would help much as their body is going to hit the asphalt or other vehicle in a wreck regardless. Alot of school buses actually do have seatbelts, it's just not a requirement for children to wear them. There is discussion as to whether a law should be created to put seatbelts in buses. Finally, my brother was in a car wreck and was told that if he had NOT been wearing his seatbelt, he would be dead. Do whatever you want, but as of now it is the law, and I wouldn't want to pay the fines.

It is the law to wear seatbelts and you will get a heavy fine if you choose not to follow the law. School busses do not have them because it would trap the children inside while they waited for the driver to unfasten them all. School busses also do not have car seats for the same reason yet there are 5 year and some 4 year olds on them. seatbelts prevent you from being thrown from the vehicle in the event of a crash. though a few have died from being trapped in the vehicle after a crash and inablility to remove the seatbelt many many many more have been killed because they were thrown from the vehicle through the windshield that is way seatbelts are the law

I understand what you are saying, people on motorcycles (in FL) are not required to wear a helmet, however if you are in a car, the police have the right to pull over anyone under the age of 18 only for a seat belt infraction. On the other hand, over 18 and there has to be another reason, eg. light out. I just don't know why they choose to ignore the hundreds of kids that ride bikes here. They should have to wear a helmet. No seat belt in a car, or no helmet on a bike. I'll take the car any day. I think that what ever you do is your choice, I personally feel as though you should always wear it, but your not going to hurt anyone but yourself if you don't.

It keeps you from flying out of the vehicle during a crash.
Statistics are that if you don't wear a seatbelt you die. Thats what is so tragic about bus accidents so many kids die. Some bus lines do have seatbelts and no one has figured out a safe way to install them on motorcycles. You might consider that the death rate for motorcyclists is three times that of automobile drivers.
It is true that the restraint may be responsible for a death but the statistics don't support not wearing them.

Why should you have to wear a seat belt, because your dad loves you, and probably allot of other people. Ok, school buses are very high visibility and travel at lower speeds, and the impossibility of getting all kids to buckle up is a nightmare. There should be seat belts. I used to ride a motorcycle, and I wouldn't want to be strapped to my ride when I wipe out, which I have, and it hurt. If you had a kid sister, would you let her ride in a car without one, knowing what you know? I think not, and to your parents, you are very precious. If you could turn back the hands of time to the day your dad had the accident, would you tell him not too wear a seat belt? Please, wear one. Happy New Years, chow

Personally, I feel that we shouldn't have to wear seat belts once we become adults legally and are able to decide for ourselves. I would have no problem with the law saying that only minors had to wear seatbelts, because they can't make choices about their own well being. Adults can though, and wearing a seatbelt is statistically proven to be an assest in prolonging your life expectancy, but by no means should you be forced to wear them.

I believe people shuold have a choice of weather to wear a seatbelt or not but if you do not wear a seatbelt and die in a crash your family will not get any money for your death or any injury even if the wreck is caused by someone else because you indangered yourself. My uncle did not wear a seatbelt was side swiped and died and his family got nothing because of the lack of the belt.

in rare cases a seat belt may kill you! But it has been proved that it has also saved lives, what you are saying is ,you would risk your own life because proving a point?? I will wear mine and make my kids wear them, law is law Hun , get used to it the laws are changing and getting harsher everyday!!!! My hubby did banger racing for years, he would have been dead after the first race he had if he didn't wear a harness..... Motorcycles will never have seat belts! Anyone who chooses not to wear head gear has made a choice, but In time im sure that will become a law too!
