I have two drives, one a dvd reader and another a cd writer. Using these is it possible to write stuff to dvd recordables?

No it is not possible. The laser for writing dvd has different wavelength when compared to cd .So u cannot write a dvd using your drives. Buy a dvd writer to write a dvd. ANY WAY

in short no it is not possible. Unless your hardware vendors for the DVD rom have a program available to convert the DVD-Rom to a burner. and i don't know of any vendors that do this.
you can however buy a new DVD Multiformat Burner for under £30 delivered see www.dabs.com they have lots to choose from.
if you see a model you like you can try froogle.co.uk or froogle.com to search for a cheaper supplier. then it is a simple process to remove your old cd-rom and put in the burner.
so simple a child of 5 could do it without having any problems.

your new burner will sometimes come with all the software you need to be able to burn your DVDs professionally. and often come with a copy of nero included. http://www.nero.com/eng/index.html for more informatioin on the offical and latest nero release and product updates.

sure sort of you may burn a mini dvd onto a cd, it truly is a cd video format that is examine by maximum dvd gamers yet you may really fit a small quantity of stuff on it, you may also burn a VCD or svcd they don't look to be dvds yet are video disks
