money orders , checks and credit cards for ebay

Paypal takes ridiculous amounts of commission, charges you more commission to take the money out from paypal, and then holds on to it for 5-7 days before it will give it to you. It sucks alright, for a seller, but it's OK for a buyer, as it's free and easy and quick. I charge people a supplement if they insist on paying by paypal from the UK. Not from other countries though, as in that case they are actually providing me a service - i.e. currency exchange.

I ask people to pay by bank transfer, which is free and quick. Otherwise by cheque or postal order.

I don't know if there are any other services like paypal, but if there are, you can more or less guarantee they're going to be charging about the same as paypal. Let's face it, they're there to make money.

If there is an alternative, I'd be interested to hear about it.

If you have a high volume of sales, use a traditional credit card processor.

OTH, if you are selling through E-Bay, there really is no way to integrate payment services with your sales that is as seamless as Paypal. That's because E-Bay owns Paypal, and makes it hard for competitive payment services to access their site.

Not that I've found. Even if you set up your own credit card processing you'll still be paying some hefty fees. Great question, I'm looking forward to other answers.
