ok, i've been told I can't drive into Big Bear unless my car has chains. My jeep is a 4x and I just found out the tires are too large to put chains on. Does anyone know what you have to do in this situation? Am I going to have to get smaller tires?! :(
Please help!!!

ok, bigger chains make NO sense. I read the car manual and it said such a size tire and larger CANNOT have chains because there is not sufficient clearance between the chain and tire rim.

the manual is right on this one,,if you use a large tire, and wheel ,when you put the chains on they will hit the fender on it,,in this case the only thing you could do is go to a smaller tire,,if you could find a thinner made set of chains that will fit it,,you might get them to work, but you,ll have to drive real slow with them on,,i mean really slow, that's one of the bad points of having large tires and wheels,,good luck with it,hope this help,s.happy new years.

There seem to be three options to use chains on your vehicle:
1) Smaller tires 2) Body damage or 3) Body (cheaper) or suspension (better) lift.

chains come in all sizes, what do you think semi trucks use? Go to an O'Reilly's, Checkers, or similar discount auto parts and ask.

Better yet, go outside and write down the tire dimensions from the side of the tire and call them and ask if they have chains that fit that size tire, save some gas.

Try cables they don't need as much clearence as chains. Also call CHP some times all you need is 4 wheel drive with snow tires not chains.
