I don't know what the educational level is, but maybe how to compose an essay. First paragraph should be an "introduction" of your topic with a thesis statement, the next three paragraphs should be the "body", where you will use each paragraph to make a different point, then the last paragraph is the "conclusion", which basically summarizes what you said in your introduction. You can also include other factors in writing an essay such as the brainstorming, research, rough draft, etc. phases.....the use of quotes...figurative language, etc. Just enough to try to cover the 6 minutes, good luck! If you need more....go through the proofreading, use thesaurus to broaden vocabulary...just rattle off more things that go along with composing the essay!

Yes speak of the incompetent American education system. How elementary kids are given nothing but stupid worksheets to keep them busy and how if they finish they are to turn their sheet around and draw so they don't bother the teacher and how there are 3rd graders that can't read and on the highschool level ask what is the point of taking all those classes if when you go to college you have to retake the same crap again.
I substituted for a school district one who year and I was apaled at how stupid students are because teachers have to follow an outdated outline that only teaches students to "pass" standardized tests just so schools can say I pushed harder. Teachers don't put much on their behalf to change the system because it is very comfortable only doing the minimal amout of work.
Yet there is a small percentage of dedicated teachers but for the most part those fat lazy pigs eat and complain all day about the students.
Point is talk about how the government can improve education for future generations. Becuase if you really think about it the future of america falls in the hands of foreigners who come here for study in college their undergrad.
or graduate degrees while Americans are quitting school and taking blue collar jobs and dreaming of becoming famous or millionaires overnight

Informative Speech! Yep! I remember giving that type of speech 2 or 3 years go in college. This speech is very similar to a Persuasive speech but you are informing someone or a group of people to go your way. I would suggest to take a topic your interested in. My topic was on AIDS in Africa. If you need any more ideas or information just e-mail me at travel4christ1@yahoo.com

I did an informative speech on mentoring, which is related to education because it often takes place in a school setting, and there is research in how mentoring affects school performance. I was able to find plenty of material for my speech, so since that was 2 years ago, there is probably even more available now. Whatever you choose, good luck, relax, you'll do great!

How about...
The internet and instant messaging has led to a new generation of really poor spellers. Spelling is IMPORTANT.
Math is IMPORTANT. I disagree that you don't use math after high school. (If I meet one more college grad who does not know how to read a ruler I think I will scream.) If you cook, you measure. If you do construction, you have to measure. If you want to properly hang something on a wall, you have to measure. And if you intend to be a "big wheel VIP" in the corporate world, you better know how to make and read a budget. (math again) Doctor, lawyer, secretary, waitress, electrician, plumber, any communications job..........the list goes on.
How about the advancement/promotion of students who can't spell, can't do basic math, and can't read? Where does the responsibility for proper education lie?
And last but not least....How about the fact that today's student reverts to "Yahoo Answers" because they don't have enough imagination or knowledge to come up with a six minute talk about anything having to do with education?
I rest my case.

Here are some topics. You need to do the research to support or refute the arguments:
Students get too much homework.
Students are learning better because of Yahoo Answers.
Nobody ever uses math outside of school.

if you are doing an original oratory, a good topic that I have thought about doing is jocks vs. smart people, it is a really sensitive topic that you could add a lot of humor to yet still make it sound like a serious problem, also, parents putting too much pressure on their kids to succeed in school could be a good one, hope this helps

Here's a thought.. students in high school spend so much time working on their "part time" jobs, which doesn't give them any time to study or do their homework. Some people say teachers give too much homework. I say that parents allow their students to work too much. What do you think?
