Lots of wrong opinions from some of the Ladies. I wear dress shirts every day. A skinny pocket is manufactured in the collar because the tabs should always be used. As a matter of fact, some shirt manufacturers stitch the pocket all the way around so the stiffener cannot be removed. The collar supports should be used, and not discarded. It is a good practice to remove before sending them to the cleaners.

The plastic in the collar keeps the ends looking fresh. You know when you wash those rather than dry clean they start curling. Well with those "plastic thingies" you heve a strait, crisp collar. So go out and use this new found knowledge to save all your "nice" shirts with the slits. Balla balla balla balla!

They're called collar stays, they as you know keep your collar straight for freshly tailored look. Glad your worried about your appearance!

This is a good website, even comes with a clip to keep them while your washing so they don't get lost or ruined. Good luck

I'd call them staves or stays just like what's in bra's. They do the same thing. They keep your shirt collars from bending out of shape.
