Science told: hands off gay sheep

Experiments that claim to ‘cure’ homosexual rams spark anger

We keep hearing about how the mother is to decide about her baby.
So why should this be ban?

Mankind is always meddling where it shouldn't. What gives man the right to think he can improve on the way God made things or nature did in millions of years? This research is frighteningly reminiscent of the misguided penchant for employing prefrontal lobotomies on the "mentally ill" a few decades back. What good did that research achieve? Bottom line, I say nature knows better than man. Stop meddling with things you don't fully understand.

Disclaimer - This is not meant to be a general criticism of good honest experimental research.

Because homosexuality is not a harmful condition nor in need of "fixing".
I find it interesting, if they have determined a sheep is gay does that mean they have indeed found the gene? If they have not found the gene, is the supposition that the sheep is gay nothing more than a "value judgment" by someone with an agenda against homosexuality?
Perhaps they need to stick to "curing" things that actually cost lives like cancer and diabetes and save the self-righteous crusades into non-issues for another time.

This research and idea are both horribly repulsive.

It's not hard to imagine a totalitarian regime forcing this kind of hormone therapy on pregnant women to make everyone heterosexual. This research seems to suggest that the variations in hormone levels during prenatal development is natural (It's not hard then to argue that homosexuality is then also normal as a result).

I don't think that mothers should be able to decide on the sexual orientation of their children anymore than they should be able to decide on the eye/hair color or skin tone. Homosexuals are already a minority, if this research translates to humans then we will almost entirely eliminate this group from our culture. Sounds like a variation of genocide to me....

And here I thought that we were beyong considering homosexuality as a mental disorder??

As a side-ntoe
It will be interesting to see what homophobic religious leaders (who may be against genetic and hormonal manipulation of foetuses in general) say about this kind of so called "treatment" T_T.

Cheers

To say that they can be "cured" suggests there is a defect. Some of us happen to think that being gay is not something that needs curing...what it needs is tolerance and understanding.

I second the above. Tolerance, tolerance tolerance. they aren't "broken" anymore than those of us from parents of divoce, so really, society needs to just get over it and move on.

Next Topic.
