And Biometric Passports will likely be required as well. I have no problem with a reliable ID or Biometric Passports. As long as nobody tries to implant anything in me, I have no issues with a reliable ID system. For once, we OUGHT to know who comes and goes here. Our porous borders have caused this.

It is true, but it isn't what you think. What they Feds are now requiring is that all state's driver's licenses meet certain criteria, and are somewhat uniform across the board. All states have until the end of '08 to reach compliance.
In Texas, everyone will be required to get their new license in '08, even if your current license doesn't expire by then. The reasoning behind this is to ensure there is no confusion between the states. For example, in Texas, if you are under 21, your license is printed vertically on the rectangularly shaped card. This allows people in stores selling alcohol to not even have to look at the date closely. If you see the person's picture, and their card is printed horizontally, then you know they are over 21. If you are from a state where this isn't the case, and you come to Texas, mistakes can be made, and those under 21 maay "get lucky" while here.
Also, there is talk of a magnetic strip being on the license allowing for quicker background checks on people. This would also get everyone's fingerprint on file as well. Currently, if you have never been in trouble, or had a reason to be fingerprinted, and you kill someone, and leave a print behind, you would not be found solely by the print. This would change that.
Rumors also have that possibly the new "national ID" would likely replace the passport for Americans. But, that is speculation at this point.

You already have a national ID. It is called a social security number. It is often stolen. It is used for all types of transitions including private and govt uses. You have to have it in order to function in the US.

Yes i did, that is for security purposes and it is in fact a good idea but how will that help us? when you get onto an airplane what are they going to do scan your finger print to see if you have commited felonies? it is just as easy as taking a fingerprint test right there.

We already have a national ID. It is called your social security number. You need it to buy a car, get a loan, join the army, apply for a job, get a driver's license, get married. All for one purpose as IDENTIFICATION.

I can't believe people still fall for that urban old legend. Just keep sending lots of money to whatever televangelist/talk radio guy whose pushing that lie around now, and you'll be OK.

I haven't heard anything about it here yet. I wouldn't care if they did but a lot of people would cry foul because it would be an invasion of their privacy.
