To address some of the earlier answers: I don't think J.K. Rowling would have the horcrux as Harry/Harry's scar. The scar was created because Voldemoort used the killing curse on Harry and Harry survived, with only the scar to show from the attack. Plus, she always has something new for the reader's to learn about the characters and their past in the new books. I'm sure the last horcrux is something that we've never even read about or are aware of. We'll just have to read about it in the new book.

Having said that, and being a bit of a theorist, I suspect the last Horcrux is Hogwart's castle. Why else would Voldemoort have been so desperate to be a teacher and come back to the school after he had attained so much power and followers for his "cause"? It just doesn't add up, unless of course he wanted to protect his hocrux.

Hi Buggy,

The soul was divided into seven pieces:

The Diary (destroyed).
The Ring. (destroyed).
The Cup.
The Locket.
Nagini the Snake.
One piece in Voldemort.
And in my opinion -- Harry's scar.

Let me share my theory with you...

In the last book, Dumbledore told Harry that when Voldemort came to his house and killed his parents, that he (Voldemort) was planning to make his final horcrux. I believe he succeeded, and it's Harry's scar.

It explains why his scar is the only thing that hurts whenever he's around Voldemort; and why his scar hurts whenever Voldemort is in a bad mood. If Harry was the horcrux, HE would hurt; but it's only the scar. This prooves that Harry and Voldemort are linked.

I think I know how this is going to end. I see Harry finding all of the horcruxes except the final one. Throughout the book he'll never figure it out. And then at the end, he may figure it out, but incorrectly. I think he'll assume that he actually is the horcrux and will put himself in combat with Voldemort hoping that Voldemort will kill him as a means of destroying the final Horcrux.

I think the person who actually kills Voldemort will be Peter Pettigrew (repaying the Wizard's Debt). But that before he actually dies (thinking he'll be re-born because of his final horcrux) Voldemort will hurl the Avada curse at Harry. The bolt will hit Harry right in the scar. Thus -- Voldemort will, unbeknowst to himself, destroy his own horcrux, and thereby be the architect of his own doom.

Harry will be knocked out, but will live because the horcrux/scar will absorb the curse. But when Harry comes to, he'll discover that his scar is missing from his forehead.

JRK said the last word in the novel would be scar. So maybe the last sentence would read something like...

"Harry felt his smooth forehead, and wondered what it would be like to go through the rest of his life without the "scar."

It's a theory. Hope it helps. Cheers.

EDIT PER COMMENTS OF OTHERS:

JKR herself has already ruled out the sword and the sorting hat as possible horcruxes, so they HAVE to be off the list. Dumbledore is the one who said that Nagini was a likely horcrux. And if you recall in OotP when Harry had the dream that he was a snake attacking Mr. Weasley in the Ministry, he was "inside" the snake at the time. He and Nagini are both joined because each carries a part of Voldemort.

Also, the person who posted that Voldemort was meant to kill Harry to make his final horcrux -- you're right -- that was the plan. But Harry's mother got in the way. Voldemort killed HER instead. And her act shielded Harry, which is why when Voldemort attacked Harry, the spell backfired. Harry was protected, which is why HE did not become a horcrux. Thus the horcrux was created accidentally in the form of the lightning bolt scar. Because of his mother's protection, Harry and the scar are seperate. That's why he can kill the scar and not die himself.

Also, remember in HBP when Dumbledore showed the ring he destroyed. JKR wrote that the stone of the ring was now cracked, and that the shape of the crack was a lightning bolt. Harry's scar IS the final horcrux.

of course, the locket, which we all think is at 12 Grimmauld place. the cup? I think Harry will find the answer there with the help of the pensieve. something of Gryffindor's...sword, maybe? the sorting hat? Onto the controversial scar...I don't think it is the scar because the final horcrux was to made with Harry's death, not with James' death. Harry didn't die, so no horcrux was created. Also, JKR in an interview says that Harry will have to find them (the horcruxs) first, THEN get Voldemort. That could change, but, that is my personal opinion of what I read in the books and what I took from her interview. I'm not counting on Nagini the snake, I think that we would have heard of her long ago, and I think she has just helped Voldemort out since he was a ghostie. I do think there is something at Hogwarts, maybe lost in the room of requirement, maybe in the trophy room? Which brings me back to the sword or hat again.,..just some ideas floating around...

Oh. I hard subject to explain. Dumbledore explains it alot better then I can and I don't want to post a huge long thing.

A Horcrux is a part of someones soul. You literally pull your soul in two. Then you must find a place to put the part of your soul that is not in you.

This is the reason that the curse that Voldemort sent at Harry didn't kill him when it backfired. Voldemort didn't have all of his soul with him. So he could not die. However Voldemort did not just tear his soul in two but in Seven parts!!!

So for Harry to kill Voldemort Harry must find 6 of the Horcruxes and distroy them. Then kill the 7th part of the sould which is still in Voldemort.

Some of the Horcruxes have already been destroyed.
