I simply check before I pick the hotel, if it has free Internet and many do. I've had some say they do, but forget to tell you at check in, only available in a few select rooms, and sometimes its wired only. Never heard of any software to get a bypass through their security check to log onto the network. However, one funny night, I was beat, and too tired to surf the net more that a few minutes and the hotel wanted $10. I fired up the laptop, and it picked up the neighboring hotel, which offed it for free to its own customers. Since they had no security, I got Internet access free.

Just select a hotel that does not charge.

In the US, most mid-range chains offer free internet access. All Holiday Inns fall in that boat.

In Europe, few hotels offer free internet access. Typical daily charges range between about US $8.00 and US $30.00. From personal experience the lowest charges are in Spain and Italy and you're most likely to find free access there. In the UK, free access is almost unheard of and the charges are very high.

Free access is pretty common in China.

There's no way to bypass the portal and get free access in properties that charge for internet access.

I spend about 250 days a year in a motel. Most hotels have free dsl or wireless nowdays. When making your reservations check to see if its free befor making the reservations. Most of the Days Inn's have free internet but ones like the Red Roof Inn want you to pay for it. Ramada's also have free internet.

Try using the phone line, that should get you onto the internet, if the hotel has it activated. Can't you pick up a wireless signal? Most hotels will have a wi-fi connection, that you can use..good luck..
