For those of you asking why the "r" word has me so distraught or saying it's no big deal.. May I only say the following..

May you never have a child that has to face this kinof unfair judgement throughout their life. May you never have to explain to a kid what that means or why the other kids' parents are too ignorant to let THEIR kids play with them. And may you never have to teach your child to hold their chin up and ignore the ignorant giggles of all those around them- children AND adults.

If you can stay this blissfully ignorant for your entire life, then God has been good to you, I guess- just know that others don't have that luxury.

What you might have believed to be an ignorant tongue twister or joke is something people with disabled children deal with daily. That is an offensive word. I suggest you educate yourself about that word and the history and all the bad stuff behind it before you go throwing it around. I constantly hear people referring to things as "That's so retarded." meaning "that is so stupid." People need to think before they throw these words around. What seems innocent fun to you, is hurtful and a difficult thing to explain away to a child dealing with developmental disabilities. These children are miracles. They are loving, they are kind, and they have futures. They're not stupid. They understand more than people give them credit for.

Jennifer hon...life sucks sometimes and not meaning to sometimes people ( and I am including myself) say some very insensitive things. I know you are a dear person and the best we can hope for in life is to do the best with the time here. Believe me hon that is something that the people I work with do not have...time...I volunteer for hospice and with hospice patients.
However I know what it feels like when someone else hits a nerve and it is noooot a good feeling at all. It has happened to me here as well...
In the long run the best thing to do is take it in stride and do what ya gotta do to be happy and make life the best it can be...we all have differing opinions good or bad...
You are so very right in that we take things that are going well in life for granted and all the gifts we are given from God...I think that we should all be a whole lot more grateful for what we have!
Now that said, can I get a hug for this bright new year? Love ya hon!

i was going to just stay away from this and be done with it. I probably should have but I am not. I will say that I apologize if you took what was meant as a harmless tongue twister a little too seriously. I am repeating myself but I do not feel in any way shape or form that I slandered or called anyone the "r" word. You have truly taken this in a light that was not intended nor will be. Sometimes people should step back and look at what was intended and wasn't. As I said before it was a childish tongue twister and still feel that way,the problem is that you are thinking I am making fun of a particular group of people when I absolutely am not. You are an educated person as am I. I do believe that you have unfairly passed judgment on me in this whereas you believe I have unfairly made fun of mentally handicapped people.WE each feel we are justified in our views and quite simply we are. Now I will lay this matter to rest,I have given my apologies that you have taken a simple thing so out of context. I will not apologize for the joke I do not feel as if I offended or called anyone anything and you will not convince me otherwise. I hope you have a good new year .I am done with this, say what you will I have thumbs down or not I have stated my case.

it is a big deal and u r correct, but on the same note, you being the more knowledged individual could express it and inform the lesser knowledged in a much more reflecting manner. You should try to understand though you may be dealing with this issue, I am sure others are dealing with issues that you know nothing about. Sharing our knowledge and fighting the battle together is , I THINK, the most powerful and effective way. By cursing and judging we divide people. And United is the only way to stand.

I agree that our world is filled with bad parents who spawn bad children. I'm a proud parent of a young man who has been taught to be respectful of all people, walks of life, religions, you name it. We have faced judgement by other people and know how it feels. I being the single mother, and he being the hard-core rocker who wears "weird" clothing and dies his hair. People who have met him and actually get to know him always tell me he's the most polite and intelligent young man they have ever met. I feel sorry for people who do not get to know others who are different from themselves, or who are afraid of people who have disabilities. They are really missing out. Blessings to you and yours, Jennifer. And don't let the ignorant get to you, too much. They're not worth it.

You have every right to rant,, sometimes it is best to let it go. You are a special person yourself so hold your head high and snicker at the majority of those parents that "think" their children are so perfect.

Would you like to take a break now and gather yourself. That was excellent. Some people just don't get how difficult it is. Please don't waste your time and energy on people like that in here. They should have the ability to know right from wrong and not to judge people without getting to know them first. To them whoever they are I wish for them to grow up. And for all the others that are cool, I say rock on. Thank you JF.

I know,I transport these children, and cerebral palsey kids.
We don`t use the "R" word.I enjoy their company, they`re much more well behaved and pleasant to be around then"normal"kids the same age,or older.

for your info not all people are as ignorant as you believe and just because your either the parent ,brother /sister of a person with a physical or mental defect doesn't give you the right to judge others either so please give it a rest .my niece has cerebral palsy and even i don't get that worked up about it .now get a life.
