That was Zacharias, the father of John the baptist. He didn’t trust the angel that had been sent to tell him that his wife would have a child that was to be the herald of the coming Messiah, so he was chastised by being made mute. When his son was born, and they asked him what the child’s name should be, he wrote on a tablet, “His name is John”, finally agreeing with what the angel had foretold. Then his ability to speak was given back to him.
PS, Saul was made blind, not mute.

it was the father of john the baptist...dont recall his exact name off the top of my head. Its within the first one or two chapters of luke

I believe his name was Saul because he was persecuting people and then Jesus changed his name to Paul (?).
