Has anybody done this? I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and have physically broken both sets of USB ports (was dumb enough to carry it around with things plugged in - no lectures please, I know, I know...it was stupid, but it's done now) There is (or was) a pair on the back and a pair on one side.

Has anyone replaced these? How hard is it? Or should I take it someplace to have done? I'm not against paying somebody to have it done if that's the wise way to go, but don't want to be without my laptop for very long.

I'm not the world's expert on computer hardware, but did successfully replace the keyboard on my previous (Dell) laptop.

Thanks for any advice.

If you computer is under warranty....contact support.....however replacing the port itself 90% of the time involves replacing the motherboard....so check your warranty and start from there.....if your warranty is out.....you will have to order the necessary parts and have an experienced laptop tech replace it.......laptops are full of small screws that have to go in certain places.....good luck

There are adapters available that can convert your serial port to USB. Then purchase a 4 (or more) USB hub, to plug into that.
Much cheaper route, than sending off to repair.
