Fish (As in domestic pets) rarely smell. If your fish is alive and in a tank it will be down to your poor house keeping if 'it' smells. If it is a piece of cod in the fridge, I would suggest binning it. Your question is far too vague.

You eat it as quickly as possible so that it doesn't start rotting. Remember, from the second it is executed it starts rotting strait away. That's why people prefer to eat "fresh" fish. When it enters your mouth and intestines this rotting process is accelerated so don't tell your friends what you've been up to otherwise they'll think its you that smells and not the fish!

If your tank smells you're not a good tank keeper sorry to say. Put carbon in your filter and change your media on a regular cycle (sponge one month, carbon the next, etc). Do regular water changes, rinse your filter media in aquarium water at every water change. If you don't use a filter, use one.

WASH IT WITH SOAPY WATER.RINSE IT,BLEACH IT.THEN PUT SOME SALT AND THE JUICE OF A LEMON AND SOAK IT FOR 10 MIN.
PUT IT IN A BAG SEAL IT WITH TAPE AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE SUPERMARKET YOU BOUGHT IT.FIND THE FIRST BIN IN THE PARKING AREA AND BIN IT
BIN IT.
