My girl lives in Australia and I'm in America. We want to be together, but it all seems so complicated and hopeless. Her coming here isn't an option so I will go there, but even that seems difficult and very expensive. Anyone have any knowledge from experience that they care to share with me? Thanks!

You are somehow lucky because Australia is more open minded compared to the U.S. and yes you are right, her coming to America is not the best option, not while Bush is around anyway.

The Australian Government requires that you prove that your relationship with the Australian citizen is genuine, so any letter, e-mail, phone bill proving your phone calls etc, is a good proof. I know an American citizen who after 2 years of fears with his Australian boyfriend, gave up on his own Country and moved to Sydney.

Me? I followed my partner to his native Country, in Europe.

Best wishes!

The most expensive part of Australia is the flight.
Everything works on a point system,i don't know how old you are,but is there any chance of you getting married? If you only want to go short term you'd have to get in touch with Aussie immigration and they'd tell you all the rules. If you want to stay in Aussie permanent then they prefer for you to be a professional, have a business or trade.Goodluck.

you could apply for prospective spouse which allows entry to Aust but you must marry within 9 months. The costs involved are application fee(dept of Immig)Medical and X-ray(approx 300aud,Penal certificate from states. There are other visas also but info provided is limited. would suggest Migration agent to make your life easier. They are professionals and deal with this on regular basis. Their fees for good one possibly $2500aud plus costs. She would be required to sponsor.

Apply for a intending spouse visa, so long as you are genuine and tell them the truth and stay with that and have had no criminal convictions especially drugs, then its not to hard.
