I think a lot has to do with their relationship to their parents, and whether their parents were eccentric or conformist. If they respect their parents generally, they probably share a great deal in common with them ethically and politically. So you can generally expect them to conform or not, depending on what their parents did. And the reverse, if a person has grown up embarrassed or otherwise disapproving of their parents.

Also, if the parents are themselves very different, whether they are still married or divorced, how the kid relates to each of them will also be a factor. My mother was big on conformity, and on criticizing everything I did. My father was big on rebellion, and on telling me I was smart "like him." I wound up a rebel who learned how to pretend to conform when necessary.

Then of course there is the feedback mechanisms of the public school. The teachers tend to reward conformity, but the other kids greatly admire a rebel.

Everyone wants to be accepted and to be loved. Being eccentric (looking for attention) or conformist (showing how 'good' you are by not rocking the boat) are simply epressions of that wish.
Each individual will have their own feelings as to why one method works better for them than the other. Factors such as temperament, upbringing and peers will determine their responses to the social influences in which they find themselves. Extroverted types will tend to be eccentric, and introverts will migrate towards conformist behaviour.

Hope this helps.

Well I would say if a normal person tends to see everyone and recognizes what is standard for normality and then sees an eccentric person and says that person is weird.

Yea works like that cuz I'm like a naturally hyper person...though I chilled that out cuz people were like man your weird and now pretty much a bored, lifeless, normal adult. BooHoo.

Sensibility. The more sense you have the less likely you will be one of the sheep.

Happy New Year.
