You sound slightly tinged with possible bitterness and jealousy (either that, or you are just trying to prove some opposite point?) ... Why? Do you work there or something?

I personally have had many; Nice, quiet, peaceful, jazz infused meetings with clients, co workers, dates and friends there in the past. I don't like the coffee as much as the atmosphere actually. (It's expensive and kind of bitter.) But, It is always cleaner than your local Borders (which actually has better, cheaper coffee but it's too crowded and tacky.) and you can't read but if you are there to MEET someone, it would be rude to read anyway so... Thats what makes Starbucks great for meeting people. I don't know about the "Rich people" thing?"

Nothing wrong with it either way... Who cares?

I am answering this as a matter of individual opinion and a retired teacher who considers myself lower middle class. I cannot afford Starbucks although I would enjoy going there if I could. I have only been there twice while visiting my daughter out of town. I would say that it is a place for the upper middle class with two incomes in the house who also just might be somewhat in debt but not necessarily. To go there every day would be quite expensive in my eyes if you had coffee and something to eat. I think the general public really doesn't see the very rich for part of being "very rich" is to be with your "own kind" in your "own places." How many presidents have you seen in a shopping mall besides Bill Clinton? And I don't think Warren Buffet is a frequent shopper either. (But I think Starbucks is great.)

No. Starbucks is just simply a coffee place that sells pricier coffee than the average coffee joint. Even though it is around four dollars for one cup, people still buy it. It's not nessesarily for the rich, normal people are attracted to Starbucks also. Starbucks has marketing strategies that target people who are both mainstream and in the business industry, and people who are individualists and artists. It can be a social gathering, or just a place that you drive through to get a Frappiccino. That is why people love Starbucks, it's not just for the celebrities or the business men and women, anyone can go there, if they can afford four bucks for a cup of coffee.

No, they're not country clubs. They may be gathering places for the pseudo-rich though and the socially-pretentious. But mostly, I think it's for people who just want a fancy coffee or even any coffee at all if there's no Tim Horton's around!

It's the replacement for a bar! Which is a good thing. But I wish they would lower the prices and brew better coffee. For the upper class? I don't think so. LOL
