If by "Low Memory" you're talking about hardware memory (your RAM), the solution will be to buy another stick of it, or upgrade to higher capacity stick of RAM. 512MB is the average for normal computing today, with 1GB being the norm for gaming PCs, and 2GB becoming increasing common (especially among Windows Vista users).
To see how much RAM you currently have, go to Start, click Run, and type in "dxdiag" (without the quotes). In the new window that shows up, under the System tab, your Memory will be about half way down the list.
You can also clear up the memory currently being used by exiting out of any programs that you don't need. You can easily check what processes are eating up your resources in the background by opening the Task Manager (hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL), going to the Processes tab, and sorting by Mem Usage. However, do NOT end any processes that are labeled SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE. Exiting these may result in system or network connection crashes. Only end the processes with your (or someone else's) username next to them.
If "Low Memory" is Virtual Memory, then go to Start, Settings, and click Control Panel. In the classic Control Panel screen, double-slick System, go the Advanced tab, click the Settings button under the Performance section, go to the new window's Advanced tab, and under the "Virtual memory" setting click Change, and increase the size. Confusing, yes, but it will increase your system's performance until you can get more hardware RAM.
Good luck!

Don't know...you can run XP on as little as 256Mb.
Right now, a 1Gb stick of laptop memory should run you about $150-$200 (WELL over $500 if you buy direct from HP...a year ago they were selling laptop meory for about $1 per Mb).
I have a 256 and a 512 stick in my Compaq laptop, both, I believe Kingston. I'm looking to go 1G in the near future.

Windows XP sp2 will open and run with as little as 256 meg of RAM.
However if you want to have it run efficiently, you should have at least 1Gig of RAM (Random Access Memory.)
If you have to add more RAM, make sure it is compatible with the RAM already installed in your system.
