You should never take iron suppliments unless a blood test has shown you to be anemic, and you should be monitored closely.

Iron supplimentation is a dangerous practice, as most doctors will attest to if you ask about it when you are not pregnant. Why then is it ok to risk the heath of 99 women to treat the 1 woman who would become anemic during pregnancy, when blood tests are easy and effective to monitor iron levels?

i take iron pills, but that is only because i get anemic very easily during pregnancy. there is no reason to take iron unless you need it. getting too much iron can cause damage to the baby.

If she told you to take it its because you need it. Generally until later in pregnancy the amount in your prenatal and food is enough, but some times your count can be down and you can be aniemic, which is horrible for you and the baby.

You will know its too much if you get constipated and cant seem to get regular agaain.
