No there shouldn't be any additional cables/lines ran to your home. Dsl shares your current exisiting phone line. You'll be given filters that act as a buffer to separate the two signals entering your home. One for phone calls and one for the dsl internet connection. The filter will have two connectors. One for the phone line to plug into and one for the dsl line from the filter to the modem. You'll have two separate telephone cables. The one supplied for your dsl is usually short so you may need to go out and buy another phone line if you need more. I have dsl and I love it ! There's nothing like broadband internet connection !

DSL is a service on the telephone line, much like caller ID or call waiting, but the only way to access it is to subscribe to the service and to access it through the modem. The DSL cable that hooks into the modem is not very thick, thicker than a phone line but thinner than an ethernet cable.

DSL comes in through the copper phone line. I had DSL, but switched over to Fiber Optics when that service was offered in my neighborhood. Nevertheless, I liked DSL. Even though copper wire and fiber optic tubes are far apart in speed and delivery, DSL was fast and I was satisfied with the connection. To get fiber optic, the phone company will need to hook another line to your telephone pole and install a box into your house. With DSL, the phone company needs to press buttons in their central office to give you the service through the already installed telephone line. You just have to connect your computer to your telephone line with dual end jacks.

DSL runs through your existing phone lines so there's no need for underground cable unless you have no phone lines to begin with.

the only different determination could be on the spot. you could purchase a on the spot router. A LinkSYS or despite, the laptop interior the basement in spite of the undeniable fact that, needs a on the spot modem. The DSL Portal will hook up with the on the spot router with the aid of ethernet cable, you will be able to connect yet another ethernet cable from the on the spot router on your laptop upstairs. i'm making use of a similair setup, in spite of the undeniable fact that I even have laptops so on the spot modems have been no subject to get.

It's routed through the phone line. The frequency is what keeps the signals separate.

It should work off your current telephone line. The cable should be no bigger around than your TV coax cable.
