The same thing happened to my iPod after only 8 months. I called tech support, but each time I was told something different. I finally made an appointment at the Genius Bar at a local store. It turns out the iPod was defective and they replaced it. However, since I did not purchase Apple Care, I had to pay about $30 bucks to get it replaced. Not bad considering the unit costs $350.

hey this has happened to me before and i have a video. if your ipod is completely uncharged and you plug it into your computer it like doent show up or charge. thats why its best to buy a charger and plug it into the wall, after its charged enough then it will work. if you buy a new one dont get an ipod though. its just a brand name, that is way overcharged. there are plenty of great, even better, mp3 players out there that are alot cheaper

I hate to tell you, but I had problems with my shuffle too, and I dumped it for the 2GB. Have you tried resetting it? You would have to upload all your songs again, but it's the only thing that ever worked for me.

Well, my iPod at the moment im having issues with iTunes, i cannot seem to upload songs on to my nano. And my iTunes is like well messed up. I am e-mailing Apple at the moment, i would do that thats the best thing to do and they can give you final advise that no one else can and tell you what to do next.

Try that- and good Luck

HAPPY NEW YEAR

step one: try a different usb port on your computer.
step two: try a different computer.

usb ports fail way more often than the devices.
