I, personally don't feel good about anybody being put to death. And yes he was a MONSTER up there with Hitler. I think justice would have been better served by putting him in a U.S Federal Prison and let him think about what he did on a daily basis for the rest of his natural life. But this should be a warning to other monsters out there. I still can't understand how one person can have so much power over so many millions of peoples lives & deaths.

You don't capture a rabid dog, you shoot it on the spot and do humanity a favour. Keeping Saddam in jail for three years, at huge cost, has done nothing except give a focus to various groups intent on destabilising Iraq, resulting in many more casualties than there would have been amongst both the Iraqi people and coalition forces.
If Saddam had been sentenced to life imprisonment, how long would it have been before terrorist groups started hijacking airliners or taking other hostages to try and achieve his release?
Not shooting Saddam on the spot is just the latest in a string of US policy errors regarding him, such as recruiting him as a CIA agent when he was in exile in Egypt and backing him to fight a drawn out and bloody war against Iran. Maybe some of the people who made these decisions should be on trial as well.

Well lets do a quick comparison and see the similarities. Bush and Saddam both leaders of their countries. Both had their people divided. Both were or are dictators. Both had made many unpopular decisions not agreed with by their people. Now for the differences.
One had his people bombed without provocation. One had his leadership stripped by another country and was killed. The other still remains in power to furthermore spread fear unto the world including his own people. I think the more important question would be when does the other get his day in court? I do believe if we were to do a global poll on which man was more hated for his crimes against his own people and the world the shrub would come out on top.

Figure it out for yourself. The last minutes of Saddam Hussein were as follows:
Saddam (as the noose is put around his neck): Ya Allah (Oh God).
Someone in the audience: Mercy be on those who pray for Mohammed and the household of Mohammed. (Everyone repeats the prayer, including Saddam.)
Executioner and two people in the audience: And hasten his return (the Mehdi), curse his enemy and grant victory to his son, Muqtada, Muqtada, Muqtada! (This is a common Sadrist chant.)
Saddam (smirking): Muqtada?
NSA Muwafaq Al-Rubai'i: To Hell!
Saddam: (laughing)
Prosecutor Munqidh Al-Far'awn: Please, no.
Muwafaq Al-Rubi'i: Long live Mohammed Baqir Al-Sadr!
Someone in the audience: To Hell!
Saddam (solemnly recites the Shahada prayer): I witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Mohammed is the messenger of Allah. I witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Mohammed is the- (trap door is opened).
Audience: Prayers for Mohammed and the household of Mohammed.
Someone: The tyrant has fell. May Allah's curse be upon him.
Someone: No. No. Stay back.
Someone: Leave him for 8 minutes. Don't take him down.
Someone: Everyone. Stay back.

Personally, I don't believe any government should have the power to kill anyone. But it is costly to keep them in prison, and probably not doing society any good to do so.
My solution: penal colonies! Dump the worst cases on habitable islands. The convicts live off the land as best they can with minimal supervision. They'd be required to produce some goods for society, too. Sugar cane or something.
The islands would be far out in the pacific, and would be monitored by satellites, so there'd be little chance of escape.
I smell a reality TV show!

Saddam deserved capital punishment - in Iraq hanging is a main form of the death penalty. Iraq is a sovereign country with their own laws and customs concerning how to deal with their criminals - other countries can't interfere. Citizens in other countries can give opinions but that's the way it is there.

He was convicted in an Iraqi court, by their laws and executed by those same laws. Their culture is not the American culture. If they did not hang him, it would be a sign of weakness. Any sign of weakness would have been disaster for the fledgling government. Stop trying to put our values on a people of a different culture. Would you want to have them doing it to us? Their culture states that a thief has a hand chopped off.

Think about it this way... life in prison without parole doesn't necesarily mean he would be there forever. Actually, he coud have another trial. And hanging was a very fair solution considering what they could have done to him.
