It can scrap against the aluminum siding.
It can plop from the canopy high above into puddles
It can sound like thousands of mice scampering

Don't get stuck on being to exact you got some artistic license and the better you us it the better your story.

through turning it into a visual representation of intensity of the precipitation.You can use radar to determine the reflectivity of the precip. or where it is through the doppler effect and thereby determine the intensity and wind speeds and otyher details through a visual representation.
