You do not have to believe me, but a few years ago an ABC reporter decided to trace those jokes that "everyone" was receiving to their actual source.

I can not quote the actual story because I do not remember it, but the source for many, but not all of the jokes, consistently went straight to the guys in the "Stock market jobs in NY".

The reports continued by explaining that those guys are in a predominantly male occupation. We all know that a room full of guys is going to have much more raunchy conversations than a mixed gender room or a room full of girls.

You will probably never receive one of those joked directly from the stock market rooms if you do not know anyone in the business, but with everyone six degrees from everyone else, it is not too difficult to see where those jokes could fly over the Internet very quickly.

You may as well have asked why women sat watching public executions by guillotine whilst knitting. It is a macabre desire for entertainment of this sort that occurs in some intellects. It could be a fear defence reaction that occurs naturally.
I find it all a little puzzling.
I have seen similar reactions in combat zones when soldiers are seeing casualties all about them but still manage to make jokes during and after an encounter with enemy fire. All people are not the same and so you should not be afraid to question other's attitudes like some answerers are questioning your right to express an opinion.

There are probably many varieties of them but I can think of 2 main groups: 1. the ones who have been overwhelmed by bad circumstances their entire lives and enjoy seeing it happen to others; 2, the ones who have been extremely overindulged, spoiled all their lives, overprotected and are so selfish they cannot relate to the tragedies of others...This group is often very bigoted against others who don't "fit" their own socioeconomic status, skin color, etc. (and this includes people from every group, not just white people).
For the people from group 1, I feel your pain, I was in that group once myself, recovering from an abusive/negligent childhood, but sought and took advantage of all the help that came my way, sought out further help on my own, and recovered enough to enjoy a happy and satisfying life and care about the pain and tragedy of others. I cannot speak for group 2. Maybe someone else out there can tell how they transformed from a spoiled, selfish greedy brat to a caring person How bout it?

Probably Brits I would think! We have a very black humour, that not everyone understands..LOL..but, I really loved Monty Python's Flying Circus and the Goodies, not to mention all the other good Brit comedians!

I know some jokes are really sick and distasteful, but don't take everything so seriously..as long as you never invented it, then your conscious is clear, but I bet you...you laughed at them. LMAO

It's called "whistling in the dark" sometimes--it's a way of laughing at adversity.

Kinda like when parents say their babies are "ugly" when they're actually cute--it's a way of averting bad luck. Apotropaic magic (means "turning away".) If you say something bad doesn't bother you, then maybe the Fates won't give you the same bad luck, and they'll visit it on somebody who would be hurt by it.

With the babies, you avert attention away from your cute baby--the Fates will assume your baby's a troll and won't bother you further. Like, you're suffering enough as it is.

Sometimes, tragedy's just too hard to handle in its original form. You gotta make it funny just to get by. It's natural.

The people who come up with these jokes are less moralistic than you about life, and most certainly know how to raise a smile in adversity.
I know with whom I'd like to spend some time with, rather than supercilious a'holes such as yourself!
Get a life, or get a sense of humour.
Don't preach your morals to the masses!

they are usually younger folks who have not yet developed the sensitivity that can only come from being kicked right in the teeth by a personal tragedy such as the loss of a parent spouse or sibling so much about life can only be learned by living

It is the people who are sick themselves, who have no respect, love or compassion for their fellow human beings. No, I am not a killjoy - I like a joke at the best of times, but not at someone else's expense.
