If I was pregnant then no I wouldn't have any alcohol as I dont think any amount is safe, its the same as drinking and driving, i dont do it. You can drink non alcoholic wine instead. Not even drs know fully what the risks are this is why they advise you not to drink or smoke during pregnancy. I know of people who have done both and baby's been fine but is it worth the risk. You can still enjoy new year without and know your giving your baby the best start you possiblly can this is all that matters. Good luck with the baby and have a happy new year

your baby will not be "fully developed" until you give birth. at around 40 weeks. The lungs are one of the last thing to develope, but don't let that stop you. Everyone else is going to say, no to drinking. But my obgyn told me that a glass of wine will not hurt. They used to ascually recomend that a women have a glass of red wine, once a week to help make the womb stronger. It willl not hurt your child, unless you become intoxicated. Stay in the wayyyyy legal limit, and you will be fine. There is nothing wrong with a single drink. Call and ask your doctor though, only because every women/pregnancy is different. And if you happen to be a high risk pregnancy, your doc might want to be sure it is ok. Oh and if your doc is not in, then call the local hospital. They will anser the question as well.
cheers

I personally wouldn't as I didn't drink when I was pregnant. You could have a glass of non alcholic wine or lemonade it looks the same and is also safer for your baby. As you will have been told the effects still pass through to your baby even though its fully developed it still can affect the baby just the same as the odd cigarette would do. Its better for your baby not to but this is just my opinion as the baby gets a better start in life without the extra toxins you can avoid. Take care andhappy new year and congratulations on your pregnancy

I thought all drinking was prohibited when pregnant at any stage. Yet reading through these answers I guess I'm mistaken. Like someone said, you should ask your Doctor if you want to know the safest answer. I know a lot of people who answered this have been through pregnancy and maybe their doctor said it is OK. Remember everyone is different. CHECK WITH YOURS. If they say no then sip on some sparkling cider. Is one glass even worth any risks? I guess I say that since I am a nervous mother to be. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks (6 months ago) Now I am 6 weeks pregnant again. So personally I'm going to stay away from all alcohol.
Good luck with everything.

i'd play it safe and not have one. The way i see it is, is it really worth risking the health of your baby for one glass of wine? Yes, chances are your baby will be absolutely fine, but there's always the risk. As far as i know doctors would recommend to 'cut down' on your alcohol intake whilst pregnant, but most would agree that it's safer altogether to abstain from drinking alcohol.
Hope you have a good new year, hopefully without alcohol

I have been told by the doctor that one glass of wine would not hurt. However, I would avoid alcohol for the safety of my child.
From personal experience I have witnessed some whom was pregnant drink alcohol one day while she was pregnant. It only happened once and her daughter was born with a disability. Not for sure if alcohol was the cause or not but I would take any chances.

I think that it is a personal choice. One glass of wine is not likely to harm your baby. However, there are obviously no studies on this. I personally would not drink anything when I was pregnant, but I know many women that have had one glass of wine and their babies are healthy and happy. It's up to you, but just know that since there are no studies done, it cannot be known if only little alcohol can affect an unborn baby.
On a side note, my midwife suggested to me to have glass of wine when I was pregnant in the later weeks to relax.

You will be fine - had a glass to see in the year with 2 of my 3 pregnancies - I was so sick on Hogmanay with my first I couldn't even eat! It wont do any harm for either of you, just stick to the one large one. Happy New Year and good luck when baby comes x

Fine! To be honest you probably won't want more than that if you haven't touched a drop for a while. What about alcohol free wine, then you won't feel left out as much. Whatever you do have a lovely time and good luck with your baby. xxx

I didn't realise i was pregnant and so during the first 3 months(which are most important) i continued to have my weekend binges including shots and lots of cider etc.i stopped as soon as i realised i was pregnant and my daughter is fine.i was advised that i could have 1 glass of wine or a john smiths (think gives you iron?).many people continue to drink throughout their pregnancies and drug addicts who also continue to take drugs and their babies turn out fine.i think its what you feel happy with and if your really worried just have a sip or two or even some non alcohol wine!happy new year-you'll be fine.
