My computer is 3 years old, and functions great for the most part. It's running XP Pro. Yesterday, I tried to install an few old games I found (SimPark, SimTown, Monopoly). Only Monopoly would play. SimPark & Town both said I needed to upgrade to Windows 95, basically because it didn't recognize XP Pro, is my guess.

I shrugged, went on with my day. Last night, I noticed the Show Desktop icon was missing, and a new one was there. When I looked at it, it was pointing to show desktop, but wouldn't work. We tried to create a new one, but each one showed up as broken links.

We tried to clean the programs off the CPU last night (the icon showed up as a SimTown icon), and this morning when I went to sign on, it told me my profile was corrupt, and wouldn't load. It loaded a default one, saying it was mine. After a restart, it loaded mine.

My husband tried to drop a shared copy of his desktop icon, but my shared folders were not working, this time. Can I roll back the cpu to yesterday?

Ran out of room-

So, what I want to know is if there is a function on the computer which will allow me to mask it into thinking those programs were never installed in the first place?

Or, where would I go to fix the problem it's showing?

Or, am I just basically bent over?

Thanks! My husband had found the restore wizard on his laptop while I was typing this, and the one from yesterday was after the right point. However, there was one from two days ago, and now, my cpu is working like it should!!

Thanks again!

If you haven't already established a restore point it's okay cause your computer will have established one on it's own. When you do a "restore to an earlier point/time" the computer will show you a calendar of the month of December with one or more days highlighted. Just pick one of those highlighted days...follow the prompts and the computer will do the rest.

If you have system restore on then you should beable to go back to the last save point. Right click on My Computer and click on Properties. Goto the System Restore Tab and see if it is on.

If it is goto Start- All Programs- Accessories- System Tools and click on System Restore and then click on a save point date you want to go back to.

do system restore - as long as there is a restore point for yesterday - may need to go back a few more days if there isn't one for yesterday...

it should be under accessories - system tools

You need to have Two things to do on your own . either of it didin't worked you have to contact a software assistance or a computer repairer.

01.Scan for viruse on your computer. I recommend AVG7.5. It's the best. You can download it from grisoft.com

02.Scan your computer for spyware. Use "spyware doctor". it's available at pctools.com

Thank you. I wish you good luck to resolve your problem without any expenses.
