I've been using a digital therm. taking my temp. orally, but I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating, and the therm. didn't show a spike in temp. Any ideas? Do you think it may show tom.? Is it ok to take temp. orally? My mother said when she did it (which was 23 years ago and she didn't have a digital therm.) She had to take the temp. rectally. Please help.

I don't like birthcontrol and don't believe in them. I am using a condom until I get this natural birth control down.

With a digital thermometer, you can take your temp either orally or vaginally--there's no need to take it rectally. The key is that you need to take it the same way every time. I always take it orally without any problem. Make sure your thermometer doesn't need a battery change.

You probably already know this, but be sure that you are monitoring other fertility signs besides your BBT, such as your cm or your cervical position. If you hope to avoid pregnancy using just fertility awareness without any barrier method, you need to abstain from sex once you detect the presence of any cm (even if it's sticky/crumbly) until either 3 days after a clear thermal shift or 4 days after the most fertile quality cm.

Good luck!

I use natural birth control myself so I know what you mean. I was told by my doctor that the temperature method is flawed and that the Billings Method is a far more accurate natural way to prevent or achieve a pregnancy. My sister and I both use it with success, it's very easy it teaches you to recognise the body's natural signs of ovulation/fertile time during the monthly cycle. Look it up if you're interested www.billingsmethod.com There's no need to use a thermometer rectally or otherwise with this method!

perhaps your not ovulating at all. If you are loyal to taking your temp BEFORE you get out of bed every morning and you ovulate you will have a temp increase

You might try the birth control pill or condoms.
