Hmmmmm........ I have stared at this question for 10 minutes with my mind wandering in both directions. I finally decided to just begin writing and see in which direction my mind began to lean towards.

I think my first instinct was to say that a person's word can mean so much more to me than any object ever could. And then my heart stopped as I remember the most touching gift I ever received. A friend from California mailed an apple cross country in a beautiful parcel just to make this teacher smile. Another time a very dear man met me at the door with a four leafed clover wanting to give me the world in the form of this beautiful green good luck charm. Both gestures touched me in ways I could never explain. See the reason was...... both weren't just gifts.... but messages. Simple as they were, they were HUGE in meaning. And in a sense....... the meaning behind both gifts were the greatest promises of all: To always find happiness in the small things........ that nothing in our relationships had to be a song and dance, just a simple gesture.

Well I suppose that is the answer then. A small gift can have such a huge meaning...... and part of that meaning can be a promise within itself. :)

Thank you for making me think... and remember.

A small gift is a promise kept, a promise of a small gift might be a promise broken; I'd rather accept or give the small gift than receive or give a great promise.

sometimes without realizing it we don't always live up to our promises. weather it is our fault or not. circumstances change all the time. so when making a promise add with in my powers i will do everything i can to keep this promise to you. and the small gift is good as long as there was some thought put into the gift and not a last min. purchase in the check out line it is also good.

No. I would like a great promise. It is more meaningful and thoughtful than a small gift

It can only be a Great Promise .....if they keep it !

If you don't plan on keeping it, than a small gift is better.

But aren't they exactly the same size really!%
-small gift is superficial unless it comes with a great meaning,
-great promise remains just words inspiring hope.

In many ways yes. Promises get broken way too easily
