Ahh yes, I remember those good old days. Actually when those systems came out, they were quite pricey especially when we were young. Maybe the price hikes on the PS3 really justify the high price, but probably not.

The original Game Boy was released on April 21, 1989 in Japan and in August 1989 in the United States with an MSRP of US$100
my family was too poor to have one - but i was able to play nintendo at a few friend's houses
------
In 1987, Sega announced a North American release date for the system of January 9, 1989, making it the second console to feature a 16-bit CPU (the first one being the Mattel Intellivision) and the first to feature single-instruction 32-bit arithmetic. Sega was not able to meet the initial release date and U.S. sales began on August 14, 1989 in New York City and Los Angeles with a suggested retail price of USD$200 at launch.
again, my family was too poor. my cousin steven had one though - so i slept over his house often!
------
The PlayStation was launched in Japan on December 3, 1994, the United States on September 9, 1995, Europe on September 29, 1995 and Asia-Pacific in November 1995. In America, Sony enjoyed a very successful launch with titles of almost every genre including Battle Arena Toshinden, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Philosoma, Wipeout and Ridge Racer. Launch price in the American market: US$ 299.00 , a price point later used by its successor, the Playstation 2.
i didn't get one for years, again, poor. a few friends had them though.
