Yes, a betta can do well in a vase with a plant depending on what type of plant and the size of the vase. Betta live well with bamboo and peace lilies. You want to make sure that the vase is about a minimum of 4 inches in diameter and that the water is at least 4 inches deep.

Its not ideal but its pretty. Your betta will be MUCH happier in a 5 - 10 gallon heated tank. You could do something really nice like a 10 gallon tank with 3 inch gems or gravel, multiple bamboo (no hood on tank) with planted aquarium plants or floating plants. Use aquarium fertilizer for your plants.

I have to many bettas to describe them all but the prize one right now is a pineapple crowntail mating pair. (yellow with black edges on each scale.)

feed him a variety of tropical food.

Never EVER put any type of fish in a vase plant. First off they don't get enough oxygen and there isn't enough food for them. My sister has a 10 gallon tank and Jaws is perfectly happy in it. Just make sure it has a lid on it because bettas have been known to try and jump out. Jaws is blue with a few red stripes. Check out this site for more info:

NO!!!!!!!! Don't put a betta in a vase with a plant. The problem you ask? Well they cant get any food, they are so hungry they start eating the roots to the plant. Get a ten gallon tank like my sis said up there.

Betta's can live in a vase but do need room to swim. I have mine in a 2 gallon heated tank. I have rainbow colored, blue, red, purple and white. If you put a heater in make sure you have air stones.
