Make out that you like being called bums and make sure you ring his local pub while he's there with his mates. Make sure that the landlord/barmaid or whoever answers the phone knows it's his mum calling and just leave a message asking him to call "bums" back ASAP as his tea is nearly ready. I think it's called reverse psychology or sommit like that...

you should try to confront him and have a meaningful conversation with him.tell him that he should be more respectful of elder people as they are much more wiser and have more life experiences than them.also try to tell him that you're not only a mother, but one who has given birth and life to him in this world to live and he should be more appreciative of the things you had done for him ever since he was a child until now.if you werent the one to give birth to him,he wouldnt have been in this world in the first place and ended up being a successful person, isnt that right?

get his baby photos out, especially the really embarrassing ones! Now, when his friends or girlfriend come round, just lift up the photo album and look at your son and lay the album on the table. Say "oh my son was just such a cutesy-wootsy litle boy" and lift the cover .... just once should be enough to convince your son to call you by your chosen name.

Whats wrong with being called bums?! Its sounds quite endearing to me! I call my mum 'mum bum' - but then I'm mentally immature!! xxx

Maybe turnabout IS fair play . . .
Get creative and start teasing him back, can't you rhyme his name? Or pick a quality of his, or something about his appearance or hobby or interest or history? Recruit help from your friends!
He's in it now!

I would just let him, he doesn't mean anything by it - its the same as any other nickname it just happens to have another meaning - making a fuss will just make him do it to annoy you
