My client is having an MRI tomorrow and she is worried she won't be still enough because she is really shaky. She phoned me to ask me what she should do. I told her to just go to her appointment and do the best she can.

My mother had Parkinson's Disease and was unable to keep very still and her MRI turned out fine. I don't think the tremoring and shakiness is a big thing. I think they just don't want you to actually turn or move your limbs to another position. Your client may have to stay in a little longer because they may have to wait until the shakiness stops to get a good picture.

Many doctors prescribe a tranquilizer to help the patient keep still or to avoid panic. She may want to call her doctor and get a prescription before her appointment.

Actually, that's few minutes at a time. Usually, MRI techs will do few "sequences" per patient. Each will take 5 minutes or so. During this time, you cannot move. However, normal breathing is no problem (of course) and slight movement is ok.

The patient will be on table horizontally. Sometimes, tech can put wedges to keep the patients steady. I suggest your patient to ask the tech when she shows up.

MRI is a long, loud process. and you do have to hold still frequently and for extended periods. Depending on what is being scanned, breathing may or may not be an issue.

If you are claustrophobic, you can usually get a anti-anxiety med from your doctor or consider and "open MRI" that doesn't feel so much like a small cave.

I hear you have to be still for a few seconds at a time. Also she will probably be asked to hold her breath at times for up to twenty seconds.
