Some do, some don't. In the rural community that I live in, the pastor of a church often has a second job. For instance, the church that I used to attend, the pastor builds homes so naturally he has a good income. There's no way he could live on just what the church pays him.

My father is a pastor and drives an old Ford Galaxy. Some people have said in answer to this question that pastors get their housing paid for, so there's lots of money...most of the houses I lived in had poor plumbing, basements that flooded, leaky roofs...the only time the parsonages were fixed was after a pastor went to a new parish.
My dad liked rural areas, so these churches didn't have a lot of money. Some people said in answer to this question that ministers take money from the collection plate..actually, the church finance committee counts the collection money and deposits it. The pastor is paid a salary that is separate from the collection.
So I guess you'all are dealing with ministers in wealthy churches? in suburbs? I haven't seen any of the ministers I knew while growing up who drove anything but the most basic cars.
My parents opened their home to anyone in need, and my father regularly visited people who couldn't leave their homes, visited the sick in hospital and at home, performed not just weddings and baptisms, but funerals, some of which were for children.
I'm not religious, but I respect the work my parents did. They never made much money, but they did what they believed in. My grandfather was a minister, and also worked in rural parishes and worked at a TB sanitarium.

Good bloody question. Would love to know this myself. My personal feeling is the pastor shouldn't enjoy a more lavish likestyle than the average member of his congregation. Since he is supported by his congregation it isn't right that he should live above them. I sincerely doubt that Jesus would drive around in a Merc or the like if he lived in these times. He'd be catching public transport. If a pastor has a wealthy congregation who can afford to have him live in luxury then that's fine. But I don't think this is the case for most, especially not those I know.

Not all Pastors drive expensive cars. Some are blessed more than others.

Most consider them "gifts" from God or the congregation. They fail to realize though, that for the most part, Jesus and his apostles WALKED everywhere they had to go. My cousin attended a church (popular in California) where the pastor drove a Rolls Royce, and each of his children were bought homes on Carribean islands! Yet, God's son, when on earth, had no where to lay his head, essentially, Jesus was homeless!! Matt 8:20

not all of them do,have you ever been in a small town or out in the country...Stop picking on preachers,we need them, they go to hospitals, pray for the sick, counsel , and do all kinds of things, its not easy being a pastor.A Pastor is responsible to God for his entire congregation...They live on a salary, just like you do..I would hate to know that God was counting on me to keep a bunch of sinners in line..You are not aware of all that they do....
